I lived in Norfolk until November, it's not much of a journey down the A47. About 90 miles.

Looks a lovely model and I really really want at least 2, but I can't justify that kind of expense at the moment, especially with shipping. Couple more years, they should start appearing second-hand.... I hope!

It was mentioned in Jalopy about the extra bits fitted over here, it was called rectification and some of the UK bits were a bit crap but not all of it. Some were heavily re-built over here before sale, mostly due to damage on the boat.

I remember a exLada dealer telling me that the Russians were into buying up and reimporting ex-UK market cars because they were well fancied back home, because of all the rectification work done up in Bridlington by Lada UK. A lot of cars got a complete respray with good capitalist paint for example, some got new electrical components etc.

A mate of mine, used to gather a complete car, and lots of the 'bits', like quad headlamps/chrome grilles etc, and go up to Campbelltown with them. He'd get a good price in cash and/or vodka off the Russian factory ships for whatever he could get.

Just found this, on Photobucket...

I collected the pickup on Tuesday as planned. One owner from new 35k miles bit of rust behind the plastic strips that run along the doors but other than that just needs a good clean and a bit of tlc. Pictures too follow. They also had another one out the back on a p plate which I may go back and collect for spares.

Yeah! another one saved. That will confuse the DVLA if FSO numbers on the road goes up. Well saved Sir, you must go back for the other one..... well before Richie does anyway. There is something quite endearing about the pick-up, it's a shame they did not sell more of them. I missed out on a mint pick-up 3 years ago and i'm still kicking myself.

There's one here, tucked away in a showroom, NOS. Seriously! Never been registered, no road mileage on it. If I can prise it away from the owner I'll post pics, but that might take a while.

Yes, forgot to say, I want one of those! Looks GR99 for my house move!

That FSO van is fabulous! Was the Pope due to visit?

Could explain the large roof vent, maybe? Actually, I'd had the vision of a couple of really big peeps sat in that back seat, and the front wheels gently lifting off the road! Could've done with more wheelbase, or less overhang.

Can't wait to see the you tube clips once they're loaded! You have the entire Autoshite community, together with the eastern European car scene hanging on every update! This car is a truly EPIC resurrection, for which no praise is too high!

On an earlier comment, someone said they knew of an unregistered FSO still sitting in a dealership.... Any chance of being informed as to its whereabouts?

enjoyed the videos Richie, I managed to run out of diesel in the pick up last night. I noticed the gauge was looking a liitle close to empty but I thought the warning light would come on if it was too low. I can only assume the bulb has gone.

Cheers Guys,

I have to say this Journey and story of my Polonez is an epic one!!

I have never done anything so crazy when it comes to saving an old car.

Most of my friends who are in to older cars have thought i am incredibly mental saving this car because most of them hated the FSO Polonez and they did own them in the past and told me how hateful they were and how parts were so hard to get etc etc.

The thing is i never got to drive one and i want to see just how bad they are!

I can't imagine they would handle any worse than my Marina does??

The best thing about this whole saga is this car was condemned ,it had important parts removed ,it was stacked up,it has a slightly damaged roof (can be repaired though) and it was well over 350 miles away from me,recovery would have been £800 if it was a there and back job or £400 if my recovery guy could get another job/link but thankfully my good friends stepped made a mini holiday out of it and recovered it for half of what i would of paid which then made it worth rescuing.

I have felt good about it because there is so few examples left that it needed to be saved and preserved for people to remember them when they were new, good or bad memories are still memories lol.

cheers

Well done Richie, I'm with you all the way! Couldn't agree more.

Andrew, Benno is correct: the car in question is a Caro pickup, in Paphos, and I'm in regular contact with the owner so it's possible I might be able to prise it out of him eventually. He's a good bloke, understands old cars and understands that I love them too. As I've said before, negotiating with Cypriots takes patience... I'll be surprised if there are any NOS left elsewhere around the world, but you never say never, do you?

I have a Polonez Caro workshop manual in pdf format if it's of any use to you. It's in Polish but there are plenty of diagrams. Contains over 400 pages I think.

Could you email it to me axrescuer? I downloaded that haynes manual torrent last night that includes some fso stuff but it only went up to 92.
