XJR replacement suggestions.

Remember how on The Crystal Maze it would get towards the end and the contestants would have to go into The Crystal Dome? Imagine if that had an engine and wheels fitted to it, that would be adequate I reckon.

Oh yes, comedy genius.

You don't write scripts for Andy Parsons do ya?

Alternatively, on Noel's House Party in about the mid-90s they redesigned the gunge tank so instead of being an actual tank it was more of a ghost train type thing, it was on rails. Anyway, if you could obtain that, I reckon you could probably fashion it into some sort of open-top car. If not, I'm sure some other part of the show could be made into a vehicle of sorts - e.g. Grab a Grand, The Big Pork Pie, possibly that bit where members of the public would go in a phone box. Good luck and happy motoring.

Now that's a plan. As long as it's got a V8.

OK, right, on Blind Date there were three "dates" who had to sit on tall chairs, as well as one "contestant". You could weld all these chairs together in a big line and fit an engine to it, then you'd have sort-of a bus thing.

A B-series diesel engine would be ideal for the 'Blind Date Stool Chain Car'

I wonder if Mr. Chips off of off Catchphrase could be converted into a vehicle somehow. I think he could be laid flat, Vauxhall Vectra mirrors installed in place of his ears, an Ital 2.0 automatic back axle installed in lieu of his back legs and a Perkins Prima and 3 speed automatic installed.

My R&D hasn't got as far as the interior and steering axle yet, sorry.

Don't be daft, Mr Chips is a fictional computer-generated image.

However, you could get one of those cylinder-shaped bins from the seaside, tape the lid shut, paint it yellow and it would be a bit like Mr Chips. You could also rig up a radio to it which plays tinkly Ceefax music and then people would have a better idea of what it is meant to be. You could also dress up like Roy Walker whilst driving it (actually whilst driving it - try to change into a grey suit and wig while you accelerate and steer around).

Mr. Chips doesn't even have ears.

Maybe you could just have the mirrors as some sort of shiny hat.

You could also use some carpet tiles and rig them up on a vertical frame in front of the bin/car, arrange them in a 3 x 3 square and charge people 20p to take one out and have a guess at whats behind. for a bit of fun you could perform a comedy wanking motion thats not quite visible when the 2nd or 3rd tile is removed.

The bulls eye rotating darts board could be used with a bit of spannering. Just make it rotate faster, and in a straight line. It would still make that funny whining noise as it moved, too.

Subaru Legacy GTB Touring.

Pretty cheap, very fast, terrible on fuel.

The force is strong with this one. Now it's just a case of finding one with a towbar and leather.

Soooo, this XJR you'll be selling. What are it's vital statistics (price, mot and such like) as I've always fancied one? Is it an X300?

94'M' X300 XJR. 155k miles, full service history, 'XJR' reg, Flamenco red with oatmeal leather, mega-rare factory sunroof, MOT'd until December 2011, and I taxed it this week for six months. It's also got a working car phone :)

It's not perfect, the rear arches and sunroof panel are a bit scabby, but it's better than 90% of the ones out there. Previous owner spent about £9000 on it in the six years and 18k miles he owned it for.

I did 2200 miles in a week across Europe in it (from Liverpool to the Czech / German / Polish border and back) and it was spot on. I use it every day for work and it's a bloody nice car.

This is it.

I'd be happy with £2k.

Passat W8.

Needlessly complex, rare, expensive to run. It's got your name all over it.

Unfortunately, it's likely to cost more than the XJ to run.... and it'll be a lot less reliable knowing modern VWs. No ta.

The Jag has been bloody good actually, other than fuel costs obviously. Servicing it wasn't expensive (I think the genuine Jag oil filter was about £8, for example) and it's not needed anything other than a service, the handbrake shoes re-attaching and the tracking doing while I've had it.

I'm 50-50 on keeping it for another six months.

I just did say no. It's not no towbar, no leather, and after seeing one today in Birmingham, no appeal whatsoever :(

There's something fishy about that one too. Don't know what, but something says to me "This'll go bang in minutes".
