Just done a bit more Googlefoo on this one - picture is in Stranraer but I knew Gilchrists as a local baker 50 miles up the road in Ayr (*AG on the number plate is one of the old Ayrshire ones).
Turns out it was J Arthur Rank - he bought out/up Hovis and McDougal in the 1950s (becoming RHM) who then made 'Mother's Pride'. In 1960 RHM bought out Gilchrist but took ages to sort out the branding. By 1965 they'd kind of got all the deliveries into Mother's Pride livery but folks in Ayr still went to the old Gilchrist's Tea Rooms (first floor above the actual bakery) for High Tea. That bit I recall being just a youngster.
Tea Rooms are now Tescos (and have been for some years) fake Tea Rooms someplace else in town for the tourists.

Q plate shite spotted. I love the Midas but Q plates still have me thinking ‘dodgy car’ for some reason.

Not to be confused with “Burns the Bread”, the least successful bakery ever!

http://midasownersclub.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=1095 Looks like the guy that originally converted it stuck to the rules maybe?
Q plates seem to be getting more of a rarity these days though - maybe folks just don't cut and shut built kit cars so often (or just lie and hope not to get found out driving a coil sprung, V8,  Range Rover axled, 1967 Series 2a)

I was told to avoid anything Q plated as a youngster as they were always 'dodgy' or 'been in a crash' etc etc
