I'd like to see it too. :D

On what planet is a Maestro a step down from a Mk2 Cavalier anyway?

Planet 'twatish fucking photocopier salesman', circa. 1985.

I think back then (early 90s?) people were of the opinion that a Diesel was slow and not hugely desirabe, think the opinion that JC had/stll has about them but most people thinking it. But regardless, the fool clearly does not know how bulletproof it is!

RE the Metro, shes said it like the car will make men be put off her, pretty sure her appearance wont have them chomping at the bit either.

Well to be fair the diesel engine in the Maestro was hardly the best advert for oil-burners. A massive world away from modern stuff in terms of power and noise so yeah I can imagine him being a bit gutted, I guess it's the same as your boss telling you he's swapping your Audi A4 for a Kia Cee'd in modern times. The Clubman Diesel was the run-out was it not so up against the Mk3 Cav, not the Mk2.

It wasn't till pug/cit launched the excellent 1.7 and 1.9 tzd turbo blocks that oil burners took off. I thing it was around 86 that they started to become common over here. Everyone else followed and the rest is history

This looks like it's probably a great little book. Did it set you back much?

I'm not usually a fan of Parr's photos but this looks like perfect subject matter for him.

The Maestro was a J plater IIRC, but I was talking about his previous car. Given his standing in the company I would have thought his Cavalier would be more than three years old.

Times were good in office equipment land, then. So the Maestro would have been a slap in the face, for sure.

I say that, 'cos my dad was a regional technical manager for Minolta, from '80 to '87; some of the more successful dealers lashed out on nice cars for their top guys. One in Glasgow equipped all 3 of his sales staff with BMW 318's (quite a big deal, then).

The dealer himself, extolled the virtues of Montego Countryman Estates, and questioned the sanity (or patriotism) of anyone who didn't get it.

My dad had a string of Cav estates; to his mild annoyance, his boss got Carlton estates (Minolta leased all their cars from Vauxhall thro' Tricentrol in Bedford). It wasn't so much the status, he quite liked the Cavs; it was all that extra officeequipmentshite carrying capacity he was after!
