Volksy Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 My flatmate has been working at a house over the last few days, it was a old fellas, who passed away. In the garage is an '83 Datsun Cherry auto, I had a quick look at it this afternoon, 19k from new, one owner etc. Sadly it's been stood since 2002, but seems to have survived remarkably well. I'm going to have a go at getting it running later this week. Initial impressions.. will need welding on the OSR, but the interior is pretty much as new, fag lighter never used etc.. I really don't have the room for it, the house is now rented, so it needs to go pretty soon. We've managed to put them off calling the local 'ANY CARS TOP PRICES PAID' hiab crew, but the stay of execution isn't permanent. If anyone is interested let me know.
boobydoo Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I love it when things like that happen. Not old boys dying...but discovering hidden gems locked away in garages with unused fag-lighter and original stickers in the rear window. FAB!!
Volksy Posted November 16, 2010 Author Posted November 16, 2010 It's the same shape as this one.. The garage is tiny, so I couldn't get a pic, some to follow if I get it running/moving. Sadly space is a problem, I already have two vehicles awaiting attention, and no driveway of my own I don't want to see it bailed, but may be inevitable if no one else wants it.
barrett Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 If you get some pics you should chuck no retro rides, I'm sure someone would save it if the price was right. Be a real shame to see it crushed, I love these things.... Someone get on it!
Volksy Posted November 16, 2010 Author Posted November 16, 2010 Aye, will defo get some pics once I can get it out of the garage. The engine free, as I could turn it over by hand. it's been left parked in Neutral with the handbrake off, so I don't think it's going to be a problem to get moving. Plus it's an old Datsun, they always bloody start..
Guest Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Once you've got some pictures and details as to if it runs etc., give me a nudge - I know a bloke in the area who loves these (and has one stashed away already) who would likely be interested.
Albert Ross Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Try Hirst. He's pretty local, and may have storage ........ Would certainly give it a chance until a buyer is found. He might even want it!
Negative Creep Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Tried the Datsun Owner's Club? I have an account on there if needed
Negative Creep Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Damn, there goes my chance of being important
Volksy Posted November 16, 2010 Author Posted November 16, 2010 That's great news D.Hirst! I'll defo be in touch probably later in the week. Be good for it to stay local too, it on Leeds 'UA' plates, and appears to have originally been supplied by Fletchers, given both dealer plates and rear window sticker. A bit more info on it, it's a 1270cc Auto, and was last taxed in 2002. It's been in a dry garage since then, but the garage door was damaged when a tree fell on the roof of the garage, thankfully no damage to the car though. Sadly though this meant that the OSR of the car started to get damp, so the lower arch is pretty crumbly. The rest of the car is very solid by the looks of it, not even many surface scabs etc. Although the sills are undersealed, so may have been replaced at some point. As mentioned before, the interior is in fantastic condition, although the rear parcel shelf has sagged. The front seats appear to have had covers on, and the rears probably haven't been sat in. It's light silvery blue, with a blue velour interior, mileage is at 19,000ish, no doubt genuine. I'll take a battery over tomorrow, as the elderly lady who is dealing with it should have located the keys by then. She's a fantastic character, and bet me that I couldn't get it going!
Torsten2001 Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I'm up for a slice of this, it can't get bailed!
Tonka Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Shame I've just bought that Fiesta, our lass would have let me have this with it being auto!
HillmanImp Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 If you get it going and need it moved, there is room on my drive, although i think Jo would disagree but she is working away at the moment so it would be a nice surprise for her coming back. I could possibly sort out the welding too. Where is it? Let me know if you need a hand. We might not be able to keep it there indefinately as I am hopefully moving pretty soon but then again the new house has a long drive too. However I am keen to break the neighbours in gently......
Volksy Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 Much appreciated M. Imp, hopefully it wont come to that. I bet your drive is looking positively barren at the moment!
Tonka Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Her indoors annoying said again last night "you could have had that if you wanted"
barrett Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Why past tense Tonka? You still could have it!
Tonka Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I don't want to tread on anybody else's toes, if it wasn't too dear I could probably find somewhere to keep it until I find the time to do it justice.
Volksy Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 Ok, all being well, it looks like it's future is secure. Still waiting for keys.....Apparently a local mechanic has them, who is being a tad elusive. As said before I'll get it at least running so I can back it out of the garage to have a proper look at it before it goes anywhere. Don't want to pass a Pup off as a Cherry if you see what I mean.. Hopefully keys will be located tomorrow or at least by the end of the week. There's a huge ass skip in the drive in anycase, so it won't be moving until that's gone.
warren t claim Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 If it was a Cherry Europe we would all be fighting to the death over it.
trigger Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Still waiting for keys.....Apparently a local mechanic has them, who is being a tad elusive. Hmm... That bit worrys me slightly.
Volksy Posted November 19, 2010 Author Posted November 19, 2010 Yes, it worries me too. Apparently the couple who are looking after the house and car are trying to track them down. Just waiting for news and then I'll be straight on it.
