Can I use Day insurance to buy a tax disc?

Picking up some new shite tomorrow and it isnt taxed. Got to drive it home via North Circular so dont want to risk it being un taxed. Had a hunt on google and got mixed messages about it

Dont know TBH, I suppose you could, but you might have a problem with some jobsworths at the PO.

This.

I believe you can tax a car no matter how long is left on the insurance, so surely this should apply to one day insurance. Anyone else had the person on the counter say 'you do know you insurance expires soon?' What bloody business is it of yours?!!

Never understood the point of it really, why would you bother buying road tax if you weren't insured anyway? Pointless.

I seem to recall that a cover note that you have downloaded and printed yourself can't be used for retaxing purposes. A cover note sent to you through the post by the insurer can be used, no matter how long it's valid for. Mind you, this was a few years ago, and more and more insurers seem to be doing the "paperless" thing, so the law might have had to change since then.

How can they tell if it's been printed by the insurers or by you? Unless your printer is really shite.

I'm sure I've bought tax with the day insurance eBay used to offer for cars bought on there. That was quite a while ago though...

I got refused when I tried to get a (free) tax disc for one of my cars because although the insurance was valid when I went into the PO, it would have expired by the time the new disc started (had a couple of days left to run) so I had to go back in a few days when I'd got my new insurance certificate.

The reason is that I would be swapping my insurance over at the weekend once the Audi has gone. But before I can do that I need to get the car back. It is MOT'd and will be insured (£20 for the day) but no tax. Previously I would have chanced it but nowadays with ANPR they will take the car away and will end up costing me £££. It means I will have to pay for a month I will barely use but I still think that will be cheaper than a pull by plod.

I think that I am going to chance it and print it out. From what I have read they actually changed the rules about printing stuff out but I didnt know how much PO counters kick off about stuff like that.

They didnt blink an eyelid when I went to get tax today only to check that it was for October.

Went to pick up my new shite,

This is a TD. Forgotten how narrow the power band is on them. Needs a few bits doing but the bloke gave me £50 back because the rear boot lock wouldn't work!

Anyone know if these can be Veg Oil'ed?

If it's a 1.9 it'll lap the veg up nae bother. I think it's a bit more difficult on later pumps, but you can twiddle with the fuelling and boost compensator to make the power a bit more linear.

Yes it 1,9 Turd Blower. Is it just a case of slap it in? Any particular recommended varieties?

So how does that Swiftcover nonsense work when it states they don't give you the paperwork?

They changed the law so you can print it out now hence Swiftcover. My CIS insurance you could choose between paper or email.
