Guest Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 . I like KYO5D - it's easy on the eye. Would look nice on a classic '66 motor - Cooper S, Lotus Cortina, E Type etc. Or a Volvo Amazon, perhaps.
Angrydicky Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I used to see a Ford Scorpio with the number plate 'F1' a lot near my mums in Essex, it was on a Granada before that. That used to be owned by Essex County Council and it was on the mayor's cars for years before it was flogged off in 2006. Made about £250k IIRC. The Mayor of Southend still has HJ 1 on their car.

cms206 Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 No bugger ever believes me on this and I don't have photos to prove it, but there was a spectacularly rotten Mk2 Bedford Astravan used to stay on the main road about a minute's walk from my old house registered NOK 1A...

worldofceri Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 The sooner all the late model BMWs and Golfs etc following me in the outside lane at 90 mph get 'personal' plates the better. It makes them easier to differentiate from unmarked plod. Hmm... S111 DHU? you can stay behind a while. BP59 WMP? Maybe I'll move over just in case! However: ...there's something 'old money' and 'I don't give a fuck how much your car is worth) about a nice plate on an old car. This is bang on the money for me. Just checked the last auction the DVLA ran and you can get a nice 5 or 6 digit old plate for a few hundred as long as you don't want it to 'mean' anything. e.g. ETT 4S - 100 HXO - 444 PXO - TWE 3K - all £400. If I had a few quid to squander I definitely would.
worldofceri Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Lowest 4 digit number 'only' £850: 3 BXG Makes a mockery of all those ebay sellers claiming HNZ 7573 or whatever has been valued at £999. http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/ ... n-last.xls
worldofceri Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 By way of contrast some dipstick bid CHR 115B up to £5K. I know which I'd prefer, even if my name was Chris B.
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Lowest 4 digit number 'only' £850: 3 BXG Makes a mockery of all those ebay sellers claiming HNZ 7573 or whatever has been valued at £999. http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/ ... n-last.xls Some nice plates there, and not silly money either. 3BXG would look good on anything and it seems that the ones that don't spell the names of wankers don't make that much. Fot 850 quid that would have been on another of my £500 shitboxes to REALLY piss the neighbours off.
Rebuilda Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 My current daily drive is a 6 digit Q plate, nice and easy to remember but non-transferrable as its on a kit.I used to own B80 YDS, it was one of the first ford granada scorpios which used to belong to ford dagenham, was going to put it on retention but never had the time before the MOT ran out. My boss has a personal plate on his range rover, transferred from his previous 4 cars and as far as I know it's just because he has a really bad memory.
messerschmitt owner Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 I saw 1 OO today on a Merc SL-thingy
Timewaster Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 In a past life I used to make no. plates in a High Street scenario. Before 2001 when the rules were all tightened up, you would not believe the dipshits who wanted their cheap shite number made to look like or spell something that it blatently wasn't. One of the more memorable requests was "Can you make this 3 look like a Y" How TF am I supposed to do that? "well, cut the top off the 3 and turn it on its side?" I made all sorts of unreadable rubbish - it was good business really. Make them sign a disclaimer and then charge them double - Worked every time

binhoker668 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Spotted this today, I guess its the plate its was originally issued with. There used to be a Jag XJ6 with a similarly private plate, thats now moved up the road. I wonder where its been all that time! Am I the only one who's noticed the flat bed, and is therefore wondering if someone somewhere is mourning it's theft?Y'see that's the cynic in me. Goddamn 21st Century. I used to be so trusting.
shellac Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Spotted this today, I guess its the plate its was originally issued with. There used to be a Jag XJ6 with a similarly private plate, thats now moved up the road. Colley Gate?
Lord Sterling Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Colley Gate? Correct. Am I the only one who's noticed the flat bed, and is therefore wondering if someone somewhere is mourning it's theft? I've also got pics of the flatbed, not very good ones as its a main road. They have both not long been there as there used to be Jag XJ6 (Which I've a pic of somewhere) and before that an old Chrysler Voyager.
mk2_craig Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Guilty!I also own (on retention) KEO 5Y which I took off a Golf Cabriolet I had a couple of years ago. Have half-arsedly tried to sell it at a fraction of it's dealer value of approx £1400 . Which reminds me, I should try harder to move it on, I could buy some proper shite with the money. Mr Keogh, are you listening? KEO5Y was very local to me for a long, long time. Used to see that thing all the time. Just down the road from a family friend in Ulverston is a light green Jetta KEO11Y, very 1982 looking apart from some oversized alloys. Tried to get a photo when I was there a couple years back but was freaked out by some old pensioner staring at me so didn't bother in the end. I've got an old Fiesta in storage and awaiting restoration, B666VTS, shoulda transferred that off before the tax ran out, think I've missed the boat on flogging the plate for big bucks to the Saxo crowd sadly. Re. the old buses. I clocked this in Edinburgh some years back
