Another Maxi Rescue!

I went to see this 1980 1750 HLS today. Off the road since 1992, absolutely no rust, well I couldn't find any. One owner from new, factory black with champagne cloth interior and a pile of spares. Going straight to BL Transverse!

Superb! the thought of a Maxi 2 in black with champagne trim will stop me sleeping tonight, you have an uncanny knack of being in the right place at the shite time Torsten :D

...or not, these motors are skinting me out! Anyway, it's not quite a Maxi 2, it's the transition model, known by enthusiasts as the Maxi 1 & a half!

I don't think i've ever seen a black one before, looks good.

What happened with the Strada you found? has it been extracted yet?

Thats lovely another great save!

Was the engine seized on it? I am going to see a Maxi in a couple of weeks which has been stored in a garage since 1993 (it has only done 33,000 miles).

Andrew353w went to rescue it for me but the brakes were seized so he couldn't A Frame it, so I stuck it FOC on RR and someone had it! It was more than a tad rusty!

Apparently not but I didn't try, the owner said it was a runner but it does come with a spare engine!

Is that a Kia Clarus on alloys in the background of the first pic? If not, Merc C-class designers need to have a word with themselves

Excellent save, v jealous. Great numberplate too (His Master's Voice) I'm guessing this Maxi was from the Bromley area, as my GSA is also an MV plate, from Normand Garage, Bromley.

Mark.

It's still on it's original plates and the dealer was in Woolwich, here's how I remember the number

HMV (His Masters Voice) 7" 45 (rpm) V (vinyl)

The geezer sent me a PM on RR saying he was going to try and move it on, the guy paid a lot to get it to around Derby and was of no use to him, fair play to him, I can't see it being a great money spinner!

Me neither, just hope he covers his costs.

At least it's in front of a wider audience now too, hopefully it will be saved or save another one.

I just had a look, he sold it for £110, here's hoping someone picks it up!

He didn't come close to covering his costs!

Last seen on Instagram. Car is in Devon.

Did try to buy it but gave up in the end and imported this one from Belgium instead.

My dad had one in that glossy primer grey colour back in the 80s which was an auto and I remember it had burgundy cloth seats.

I think it was only made in that colour around 1974/75

It was Mirage, rarely seen, they made them and after a bout 3 months they rotted away, that's why they called it Mirage, you didn't really see it in polished primer. Although to make up for things, VAG and Ford can now do you models in polished primer for a really grey day

I know holts made aerosol cans in Mirage back in 80s as I rattle canned the new sills on his.
