Guest Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I've just purchased a sexy white Citroen Xantia to use whilst my Wartburg is being fixed, but now have to sell it as my classic insurance policy won't cover it. Its too new apparently, but a I could put a 1996 Jag XJ on it for buttons cos thats regarded as a classic. huh? Yes I can't insure a low risk Xantia, but I can insure a 4.0 litre sports saloon? Bonkers So if anyone wants a lovely piece of autoshite that's actually a bloody good car then get in touch Particulars: 1994 Citroen Xantia 2.0 SX Auto MOT to March 2011 no Tax FSH, just been serviced too good tyres 4 speed auto box no rust Electric sunroof (working) Electric Mirrors (working) Electric windows (working) Central Locking (working) No Aircon Finished in white with unmarked interior. Suspension does what it should and is soft. Brakes are amazing. £300 for quick sale. I'll get some pics up as soon as I've worked out how.[/img]
garethj Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I found this, Footman James will insure almost anything that’s over 20 years old, but if it’s a recognised classic it can be 15 years old. It seriously cuts down the choice of cars if you don’t want to pay £500 for insurance
Guest Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I'm currently with Footman james and they wouldn't insure it at all. I had to call all the usual and since my NCB evaporated due to having a classic policy for over 5 years, the cheapest quote for the Xantia came in at £711 fully comp. To add a Jag XJ6 to my existing policy £96. WTF?! So the Xantia costs 7 times more to insure than a jag. HAS THE WORLD GONE ****'ING TOPSY TURVY?!
dollywobbler Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 'bout time you showed your face here again! :wink; Xant sounds good value. Waftamatic! By the way - this chap is the owner of the bright orange Wartburg in ReallyLoud's 2cv national pics, and was also my highly esteemed co-driver when I took the BX on the BXagon rally around France.
AnthonyG Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Sounds like a good excuse to buy an old XJ6 to me!
AnthonyG Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 P.S You need to PM vivapower or read the thread entitled super cheap motoring - a Xantia for £300 might fit the bill
pogweasel Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 This is one of the reasons I have 'regular' insurance rather than a classic policy. Costs a little bit more but at least you don't get bummed later when you need ncb again.
myglaren Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Would you like the Xantia advertising on the French Car Forum? Maybe wait a couple of days to see if anyone here wants it first perhaps?

Costs a little bit more but at least you don't get bummed later when you need ncb again.I wonder how many years not paying the "little bit more" takes until it pays back for future bumming? I doubt any of my local contemporaries are paying less than £100 a year.
dollywobbler Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Indeed. I doubt I could insure four moderns for a total price of £137 so they're banished and I'm sticking with old shite!

Mr_Bo11ox Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I enjoy being bummed for £100 on my classic insurance, it seems a right old bargain to me.

Station Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Lancaster are good with classic stuff, but they might have the same view on what's classic and what's not.
Torsten2001 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Just get a trade policy, £500 a year for ANYTHING & Fully Comp in a London Ghetto! Now that's Value
Pete-M Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 You don't need an excuse to drive an XJ. I love mine. Many many moons ago I had an Escort RS2000, one of the Mk5 ones. Insurance when I bought it was £750ish, when renewal time arrived they wanted £1750 even though there hadn't been any claims, I didn't have any points and they'd made me fit £350 worth of alarm to it the year before. I was not happy, so I rang 'em up. Girl told me that the quote was right and they were getting out of sports car insurance. Just out of interest, I asked them how much it would cost me to insure a Sapphire Cosworth. "£768, fully comp" was the reply. I asked if I needed to fit a Thatcham one alarm to one if I bought one, "No, Thatcham 2 is fine". So, the Escort needed a Thatcham one alarm and £1750 to insure (even though they came with a factory alarm and immobiliser...), but cost a grand more than a Cosworth to insure. Bit of a no-brainer that, so I sold the Escort and bought a Cosworth the same day. Insurance, they really are mentalists.
Angrydicky Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Footman James' first advisor refused point blank to insure me on my 1985 Maestro ("It's not old enough") even though they insure 2CV's up to 1990. The second time I rang a different advisor said they would insure me, but for £1000 Needless to say, I am not paying that much to insure a £300 shitter, so my dad drives it instead, he added it to his RH policy for £75.
