Peykan iirc... Cool pics, adventurous holiday choice!

Hillman Hunter made up until 2/3 years ago and still pretty common across Iran, a sort of Iranian Dacia!

She'll probably be spending alot of time photographing shite. My old mans originally Syrian and we spent alot of time there. The Taxis are pure gold shite, often carpeted with load of decorations hanging off.

Heres a taster:

Yes, they really do still use these types of Taxis until now.

These Yank Taxis are often used to take people on long journeys, often to the Lebanese/Jordanian borders:

One of my uncles is a Taxi driver in Syria. Next time I go, I'll snap a pic of his car.

Brilliant pics. All those old classics...the warm, dry weather...hmmm. Wonder what the practicalities are of exporting an old Merc (I'm thinking of that green 609) from Iran? Any idea?

I mean, it's driveable, if you'd got a couple of months spare!

Excellent photos. Particularly loving the Simca 1307 taillights on the Pekyan

Your mum!

err, has great spotting capabilities. D'you think she'd be able to get some Peykan spares over to the UK next time

What's the point of those wiper covers :?

Posted

Me n mum reckon the wiper jackets are for sand n dust....mebbe to prevent scratching of the windscreen,,but she l ask one of her iranian friends to specify...im also considering going to to Damascus on my way back to New Zealand as ive got a friend there ..it looks like shite heaven..perhaps we could drive semi newish cheap shite from here and swappsie for ancient when we get their..anybody up for it..

Wow! A Citroen Jyane! That's Iranian for Lion apparently - the Jyane being a locally produced Dyane. They made crazy pick up conversions too.

What superb spotting.

I cant believe your mum did not snap one of these mythical rwd Pug 405/Peykan hybrid things (a real hybrid, not a poncy eco-effort). I want to see one of these, including gratuitous rear axle footage. Tell your mum to pull her socks up before the Syria trip.

My Mrs was mad for a trip to Iran, she seems to have gone a bit quiet about it since this story popped up of the woman sentenced to 'death by stoning' for publicly eating a mars bar or whatever it was though.

Posted

ok Bollox..ill tell her..anyway...ive always been one for being stoned in public..so i dont know what the problem is..

Virtually everything sold in Iran is prime shite, not just the Peykan.

I'd love a pic of the Peugeot Pars (a 405 with a 406 type front end grafted on ) or a Samand - the new 'national' car.

P.S I'm impressed your mum knows/remembers what a Hillman Hunter looks like!

I reckon the plastic covering on the wipers is an anti-theft device.

Not often you here the words 'Iran' and 'holiday' in the same sentance is it?

Is that some sort of booted Peugeot 206 saloon in the third pic (with the back of the bus)?
