I have finally signed up

My mate has finally talked me into joining.

I have owned a selection of truly tatty cars over the years,

At present I own a 230,000 mile 2001 transit van I use to transport my racing motorbike around in. It was an everyday vehicle for a while while another car was being fixed. I bought it for £1600 in 2013 with 160,000 miles on the clock. I had the dual mass flywheel changed, but otherwise I have maintained it. I drive it gently and there is a fair bit of corrosion but all I use it for is taking my bikes about and moving large things. It looks terrible with every panel dented and a flattened metal bit of biscuit tin pop riveted to the roof. It’s got a musical horn that plays ‘Dixie’.

i have kept a 2008 ford smax going to 187,000 miles (2.0 turbo diesel) but it really is on its last legs in the winter. I put a new wing on it after a collision dented it and sprayed it with rattle cans. As well as a silencer after the old one fell off on the motorway. Fortunately there is a specialist smax breaker only a few miles from me so at least when the time comes i can dispose of it properly, my wife drives it. She seems uninterested in the aesthetics of cars.

I have a 1989 Mercedes 420sl and that’s not a bad car though!

I mainly travel on my motorbikes

a 2009 hipstered triumph bonneville. It’s got hipster tape wrapped around the exhaust down pipes. This is handy, as you can buy castor oil from Holland and Barrett the health place and pour it over the tape and it makes the bike smell like you’re running it on Castrol R race oil - a lovely evocative smell.

a 2016 bmw s1000rr. It’s very fast.

As the price of them has gone down, bit like old Brit cars (the people who like them are getting too old to own them, therefore supply/demand means cheaper) I bought a 1975 T160 triumph trident last year. They were the original super bike. Well, it doesn’t shake as much as an old twin - it’s actually pretty quick for its age, but it has numerous vertical joined surfaces…..so it leaks a bit of oil (they all do that sir)

I race an Aprilia rs660 - they really are as good as everyone says.

I am really mean.

I use my technically road legal old race tyres on my road bikes. I’ve ridden this winter with Pirelli Diablo supercorsa medium compound race tyre on the rear of my bonneville.

I put my old car oil in my electric chainsaw - I saw branches off the trees where I live and dry them out and burn them on a log burner.

I joined last night. Already there have been benefits. My wife is driving at the minute as I type and for the first for weeks the engine management light has not come on in the SMAX.  As long as you turn the ESP off the only warning is ‘low washer fluid’

its a miracle

here’s some pics of my dent repair

the filler is coming off at the back

Beautiful Iron horses, I’ve wanted to get back into biking for years but since Covid peoples driving standards have gotten so bad, it scares the shit out of me

That Trident is bloody lovely, the very best colour scheme, could only be bettered (in my opinion) by being an X75

No, but I aware urban guerrilla was the follow up single to silver machine but was unfortunately released the same time as an IRA mainland bombing campaign, so the BC wouldn’t play it,

That's very unfortunate timing
