Maybe a for sale thread in the future E220 cdi, what to do...

Just got back from a fun family day out at the NEC for the camping and caravaning show. We took the Merc and it really is a sublime motorway cruiser. Superbly comfortable and quiet. I'm actually looking forward to the long drives for gigs coming up. No sign of suspension problems now the ride height is spot on and no error messages, hooray. My wife said it was comfy as the Xantias so it must be good.

Not bad on fuel either although a thermostat has been ordered and is the next job as I'm sure it'll get more mpg at the right temp.20260219_193321.JPG.e98e3e6859d17162b4a869c95e6eb375.JPG

I thought a couple of months would be a good time to post an update on this. The E class is behaving perfectly, about 3000 miles completed in sublime comfort, what a thing. I'm confident that the suspension compressor and filter full of water was the problem, it certainly wasn't helping! Ride height is always stable, it will sag when you load it but always rises to the occasion on start up and it doesn't sink over night.

So far it's been used to transport 4 band members, plus bass amp, drum kit and in ear mixing X rack (Big!) from Gloucester to Bideford, Weston Super Mare, Central London, a few other gigs I've forgotten about as well as daily duties of about 100 miles per day round the schools doing music lessons, rehearsals etc.

I'll certainly keep it a while longer, but everything is for sale for the right price, right? I had always wanted one of these and the more I read about them the more I realise this is probably the one to live with.

Post 2006 facelift - so no SBC, niggles sorted and the later 2.2 CDi (170hp more than enough for me) and because it's only the 2.2 it keeps the hardier 5 speed auto rather than the 7G-tronic which can be less long lasting. This one also had a big gearbox bill in 2024 and it changes gear very smoothly so all is well there.

Facelift is allegedly more refined and I prefer the front end styling over the pre 2006 models

Top spec interior memory, heated seats with real cow, that's what the pleated door cards mean apparently, fancy!

No dpf

Estate so hugemungous!
