Awesome

Thank you for sharing.

They do look good ... 🤔

Agreed

They look surprisingly good on the XG30. Now I wonder how some of the various Saab 3-spokes would look on the Olds! A few of them would suit the 88 slightly better with more rounded surfaces.

I guess one would need s photoshopping god to do those.

Right now, I love the Freelander wheels.
They need their centre bore enlarged from 66mm to 70.3mm iirc.

I cleaned up Rich’s pics.

Oh, and would love to see a photoshop on the Olds.

A few more random pics later.

But…….,

I am back home.

216 miles on 29.7 liters.

Someone please do us the following THREE CALCULATIONS.

Uk Imperial consumption

US gallon consumption

Km/l or L/100km

Thank you.

33.6mpg UK, 28 mpg, 8.4l/100km

Not bad really! The 3800 has always been a really good compromise between running costs and performance.

Calculator says about fuel consumption

UK Gallons -  33 MPG

US Gallons  -  27.5 MPG

Metric

11.7 km/l

8.5 l/100km

BLOODY HELL !!!!

Sorry to tell you guys…….

I am chuffed with this.

Should I be??

I don’t drive the shit out of any car.

But certainly brisk.

Also happy to confess to spending a lot of time in the outside lane.

I once hired a 1999 3.8 V6 Buick Regal (200bhp) and was amazed it did over 30 UK mpg over the hills of Pennsylvania, driven quite spritely at times chasing trains..

I also hope to find someone who can PHOTOSHOP a set of Mk1 Freelander wheels, and lower it by maximum 2” visually

If you are able to do so, please post them here.IMG_4415.jpeg

I've never driven a Buick I didn't like.  Not the last word in driving dynamics, but they're not that sort of car.  Absolutely wonderfully easy, comfortable way of dispatching distance and just completely insulating yourself from the chaos of the outside world though.

Friend of mine back up north had several of the generation before yours, and I do still kick myself for never having bought one.

Grand National though would be the holy grail.  Again...had the opportunity to buy one many years ago, before I realised how damned rare they were.  The whole idea of something with a Buick badge on which does 0-60 similarly rapidly to a Jag XJ-S V12 is just so utterly silly that it appeals to me so bad.  Launch in it was honestly ridiculous - actually quite gentle for the first second or so while the big lazy torque converter gets up to speed and the turbo spools up, but good god from that point on it was both savage and utterly relentless well into licence losing territory.  Handled pretty damned well too, yet without losing the comfort and ease of driveability that makes a Buick a Buick.

I could absolutely see me with one as a daily driver if I came into enough cash I could justify buying one.  Fact that nobody would ever know what the heck it was would make it all the better.

I really feel quite strongly that despite it being -1’C or 30’F outside, tomorrow I will get the Olds washed of all the road grime.

Then, because it truly fits the ethos……

I will bestow upon it, a sign, to make it stand out amongst the sheep.

I got these Porsche wheels adjusted to fit the 2002 lt35 Rian, they were taken out by a friend that left enough at the face of the rim to take the standard centre cap.

I haven't managed back to it since but I plan to ....

Thank you Bill.

I have to keep real world safety in mind, whatever I do.
Not neurotic screaming from under an apron.
So I will push sensibly at the envelope.

I took apart one of the wheels just to understand how the wheel nuts and hubcaps interact.

You will see the hubcap actually has plastic domed nuts holding it down. Threaded around the wheel nuts.
Also, the protrusion in the centre under it all.

I have realised that I am going to need 5x115 to 5x114.3 adapters that would also act as spacers.

I certainly still want to go with the three spoke wheels.

I would think it’s highly unlikely that someone in the UK would have a set of 4 adapters to get me to 5x114.3

My crazy non engineering head has also asked me the question whether one could widen the hub facing bores on a set of 5x114.3 spacers to fit the 5x115 hubs and then delivering the desired PCD of 5x114.3 to take those Mk1 Freelander wheels.

Feedback, input, advice and donations accepted.

Do we really need two threads on this displaying the same thing?

No

A mates son fitted jeep alloys to a focus a few years ago, by having the hubs welded up and redrilled to the jeep pattern.

He was fortunate that we know of a local 'old boy' with engineering skills to die for, it still wasn't cheap, but probably cheaper than having one-off spacers made, or importing them.

Does obvs make it impossible (theoretically) to go back to the old rims, if that would bother you

Edit- - I don't remember what was done about the centre bore, maybe it was the same??

I have pulled that trick before on hubs.

Old guy in engineering shop……

Alchemist, Engineering magician.

Probably adapters…..

Imagine finding, somewhere in this country, a set of 5x15 to 5x114.3 adapters with the right super sized center bore.

Happy Days.

A quick google shows up loads of adaptors for sale in the UK with this spacing - of varying thickness. Most seem to be marked us as ‘US adaptors’ so assume the 114.3 is a common US spec.

Prob see a tyre to arch interface with added 32mm adaptor and wider wheels unless very low offset.
