Also maybe an Ariel Atom.

It's a shame that there isn't an Autoshite Car Hire service available. I know there are hire companies who do 'traditional classics' but do you wouldn't it be good if you could go and hire an Allegro for a weekend, or a Sherpa for your house move, or...

I've driven a 2.0 litre Primera of that vintage and can confirm that the handling really is superb.  Performance was good too, but that's probably to be expected with a 16-valve car.
