What does Chippy Minton drive?

Recommended Posts

Do you remember Chippy Minton from Trumpton? Well I'm trying to work out what he drives. It's for an article I'm working on for Commercial Motor magazine. Here's a link to a picture: http://www.pierschristian.co.uk/harrop/ ... k/cg90.jpg

It's definitely got a hint of 1950s America to it - and isn't that bullet-type nose a bit Studebakeresque? Unusual to have suicide doors on a truck!

Any advice/guesses/opinions will be greatly appreciated.

And while we are on the subject, anyone care to guess what Postman Pat drives? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Um9_ooyeJVU/S ... an-Pat.jpg

Thanks for your help.

Look to me like some sort of Studebaker:

But then there is a 49 Ford:

Though I could be (and am almost always) wrong.

I know the Postman Pat van strongly resembled a British made Blue Van seen in some obscure museum, I'm trying to find the thread........

I suspect it is a russian thing aping the styling of americana a decade or two after the event.

Komrade Chippy would have it no other way, else fear a visit from the Chigley Secret Police.

Life was hard in the People's Communist Republic of Trumptonshire.

Thank you very much for the suggestions.

Thats exactly what I was thinking of. Didnt someone here take a photo of a Blue one in some obscure car museum. I think its called a 'Willam'

There was one of those in the Bubble Car Museum at Byard's Leap - it's a Willam.

Unfortunately their website isn't very informative, so here's some info from a different museum in America: link

Pat's van isn't an HA - it has a single wiper hanging down from the top of the screen. It also has a two-tone horn, which HAs never did. Maybe it's some obscure Eastern European offering?

Apparently this is what Pat drives nowadays:

The original van must not meet Royal Mail emissions standards any more. What's the new one though? Looks Korean to me.

Shouldn't that cat be dead by now, it must be knocking on 30 years old!

No idea what Chippy's vehicle's meant to be, but it does have a hint of Andy Saunders' work about it.

HMHB FTW here too,

They're playing our tune:
