COOC Six Cylinder Meet

Recommended Posts

Eh, up. Each year the Surrey area group of the Cambridge-Oxford OC do a "Six Cylinder Meet" and probably get more big Farinas in one place than at any other time though the year. Peaked at something like 28 this year I think. Obviously some 4 cylinder cars and the odd other come along too. An ideal opportunity to try out the new lens I bought for the Seth_cam. Until I discovered half way there I'd left the memory card at home again :x So on with the phone cam I went....

Lovely selection mind. What is that last bike there?

Indeed it is! If I'd been able to use the proper camera I could have got some good Bo11ox style people shots

It said Norton on the tank so I assumed it was one of those. I think the bike guys were unconnected and happened to turn up.

The Vanden Plas versions do nothing for me, but I would love a plod-spec A110 :)

or is that 3 litre sitting very high at the front?

looks engineless

3 litre crabs have self levelling suspension (a bit like citroens) - back comes up when you start it ;)

ahhhh - i see

looks a bit weird though :?

Aye, it does, and they're not exactly oil paintings anyway, are they?

There were much nicer looking saloons available, I'm not surprised they didn't catch on.

2. Did they do a version with single oblong (rather than twin round) headlamps? - A neighbour had one when I was a child, I'm convinced it had oblong headlamps but have never seen another, so am I remembering it wrong or was there such a beast.

Put my name down for an MG diesel estate as well.

The very early press cars indeed had oblong headlamps. They were replaced as series production started with the ugly four headlamps.

Also - what is it with fitting completely inappropriate chrome Rostyle wheels to Farinas. Is it a 'King of the Council Estate' badge of honour?

Lovely stuff, I have a lot of time for Big Farinas, and obviously 3-Litres are solid-gold shite. They did look better with the oblong headlights though, i'm surprised no one has done a conversion.

Also, what's the beef with rostyles on Farinas? I reckon they look good

So my memory isn't playing tricks, although I wonder how a Pembrokeshire farmer ended up with an early press car. (it must have been very cheap)

They were just giveaway. I've got a 1977 Glass Guide and the 3 litre is the cheapest 1970 car listed! That and the Zephyr IV, another wonderful old shitbox.

Yes, they do look better with oblongs. From the rear 3/4 the 3 Litre is a good looking car and they had a superb interior. I'd suffer one.

Biased because my dada had one yonks back as a company car but I like the headlights on the 3-litre. Sort of remind me of those 'Chinese eye' Rolls Royces of the seventies.

The back end looks almost Bentley-ish. It dodn't deserve such a miserable end. I bet it probebly drive quite well but cars like that and the Zodiac etc were just dinosaurs.
