The Dutch have export plates. These are valid for just two weeks. The Germans issue export plate that last for a month. Both have insurance.

Once in Spain I may have to get a temp import plate to give me time to have the car registered.

That process is to ally for importation, pay a fee and have the car tested. It has just had a new Dutch one but that does not matter. I like most who live in Spain have a Digital ID and can submit paperwork on line. The few that do not have a digital ID will be able to go to a gestor. They are an admin office they act as an interface between officialdom and citizens. They know which strings to pull.

Fees will depend on pollution of car, value of car and a new test is around 120€ for a "special" importation test.

Sounds simple, but sometimes officials can throw a wobbly.

I have not gone down the importation route to save money. It was to give us a great choice of car. For example in the whole of Spain on the most popular car selling website there are only 38 petrol engined 3008s, with 4cylinder 1600 engines.  Obviously i used the same criteria of kms and price as I did in NL. In NL there are nearly 200 that match.

A lot of Peugeot with petrol engines in Spain have the terrible 3 cylinder 1.2 PureTech engine. I was not willing to touch them

The car is on Dutch export plates. Tonight is our last night in NL. Done around 180km since we picked the car up.5b790068a3ae66f68f7d9fc305e6712f.jpg

Poo counts are what you need to post on collection threads. I have neglected this a fair bit because it only occurs once a day. I hate using public loos, usually smelly piss on the floor etc.
However, being a older male I find myself wanting to pee all the time. Some days it seems every hour. Getting old is no fun.
When the hotel has a nice bathroom it is something to celebrate.
We are in a in an Ibis hotel this is only a few Euro morre per night than the Budget Ibis a short distance away. Last year we had a night there. This hotel has far larger rooms and bed. The bathroom, whilst being modular is is also far better

Long day yesterday. The French certainly want traffic on the toll motorways. Laods of N/D roads with low speeds and restricted overtaking opportunities.
We have seen on the news that some parts of France have been flooded. We have seen rivers that are at full capacity. We have manged to get through.
This morning Bordeaux was looking normal just past 6 and this......

Arrived home a few hours ago. The weather was basically ok. A few heavy showers. Now reading  the local press we missed hail, high winds and flooding.

The was a tree greeting us when we got near the house. It was laying across the road thus we could not drive the last 500 metres. Phone the emergency number the Fire Brigade was here in around 15 mins. Road now cleared.

Some more images of the scenery in the last leg.

The collection of the 307 was a long day. That image inside a rammed urban bus was the wrong bus. What we did not know was the first bus we tried to take and was told it was not going our way was the correct one. The second bus stopped short of our destination. Then trying to get a taxi to go further proved impossible as they were on strike. In the end got a taxi, one of the new Ford pumas. I was not impressed by the quality of the plastic trim. The seat were nice, looked and felt like leather. I expect they were faux leather.

Had to wait for a technical report to be written. Basically it is the technical details of the vehicle. The alternative is to wait for an official Certificate of Conformity from Peugeot. That costs more than twice the price and can take a month to arrive.

Now that has been produced The test  (Spanish equivalent to an MOT) is to be done on Tuesday.

Here is a photo of both cars in the parking area.

  • Remspoor changed the title to Oh no yet another collection thread! Passed the Spanish MOT
Posted

As the title now says the car has passed the Inspección Técnica de Vehículos – ITV (The Spanish MOT) Now without ownership papers as the Spanish paperwork is being processed.

There was s slight hiccup because to import a car into Spain from other parts of the EU you need a certificate of conformity form the manufacture. The alternative is a Ficha tecnica reducida. This gives the same data as a CoC and at a greatly reduced cost. The original firm of engineers we asked to produce one fucked details up. So we had to rush to obtain one from another company quickly.

Next step is wait for the conformation the car has passed the ITV and then pay more taxes and get the registration documents.

Flipping paperwork.

Waited over 1.5 weeks to be told the Ficha tecnica reducida was not acceptable. It had included various options for wheel/tyre sizes . Managed to get that corrected within the hour. Then spent this afternoon completing forms on line to pay yet more taxes. In the end phone the tax office for help as some of the fields that needed to be filed in was not obvious what they meant.  Monday is registration day.

All of this may seem a bit of a fuss. But cars in Spain are more expensive. Here is a link to a similar car for sale in Madrid.

Same year, almost the same KMs,   but with a higher spec.  for 14300€ cash price. So far we have not reached anywhere near that price. I will also hopefully get some taxes back from The Netherlands, which would be nice.

That is Spain for you. And something that the Place in bargain Brits Sun sort of programme never ever speak about. ( I once for this forum wrote a bit about how to export a car from Spain. That too involves a lot of paperwork)

The bit I do not like is you have to pay for  a higher MOT price. (round figs) 120€ when importation compared with 45 for the annual one.  The Spanish MOT (ITV) price difference should not be so much greater

A  Certificate of conformity is requited. All cars made for the EU have this. But you cannot download for free this bit of paperwork.

Then today the  "registration fee". There should be no import duty, but the "registration fee" is that in all but name.

Then to complete the paperwork I am charged another 100€ to obtain registration document and number. That is also paid when you register  a new car.  Then if you imported a car say into another EU country from Spain the amount and the paperwork will differ. The UK even when in the EU has the cheapest and simplest method for change of vehicle ownership or importation.

The Spanish MOT (ITV) price difference should not be so much greater.

I still cannot use the car as the exportation plates and insurance, from NL last only 2 weeks. I could obtain green temp importation plates for Spain but that costs money. As I still have the 307 this is an unnecessary expense.

Three weeks and 2 days the car is now on Spanish plates.

There has been a lot of faffing around trying to pay fees and obtaining documents. Sometimes due to us not understanding how it should be done or given the wrong information . Like today, we had a printout of the website of what we need to do and went to the town hall to pay the annual road tax. Before we get the cars registration documents. The town hall said that cannot be done. When at the offices for the registration document we was told we must have it. Bugger. Then we was informed our town council do not collect this tax. It seems some do and some don’t. We had to pay the province (similar to a county in the UK) Those town council office works never said that to us. Still all sort. Tomorrow a drive.

The annual road tax... just 35€ per year.

They have been taking a leaf out of the Irish book. Vehicle Registration Tax here is 7% for ZEVs up to 41% for juicy cars, that is of the open market selling price, as calculated by the Revenue. With extra Nox ratings, which load diesels even further. That's for cars from the EU. So much for the Single Market*.Of course, there aren't many RHD cars to buy from the EU. If you want to buy one from the UK, there's customs duty and Vat on top of that. As that increases the cost to gigantic levels the main source of affordable s/h cars has been removed, leading to a doubling of used car prices on the Irish market.
