Found near a derelict hill farm. It had aggressively treaded tyres on the back, so I think it might have ended its days as a farm hack!

It looks tantalisingly familiar, but I have no idea. I have run the registration through a few data check services with no luck.

Any ideas?

Could it be a late '40s/early '50s Peugeot?

Similar to this one:

Edited: On second thoughts, I reckon it's more likely that RedSparrow has it right.

The little strip behind the rear windows says that's what it is!

Do you reckon it was covered by that tarp at some point?

Oh cock. I am shit at this.

Not at all, you convinced me until Mr_B agreed with my first theory, and they do look kinda similar.

Not a Pug 203, definitely either a Lancia Aprilia or Ardea, though I'm guessing a post-war one with the non-split rear window. What a find!

check the rear doors, they are a completely different shape to the Aprilia ones.

I'm gonna go with a Peugeot 203,

Here's an early 203 dash..

Haha, snap, was just trying to post that very same pic!

Duh. Just realised that the chrome strip that's leading me astray probably isn't actually attached to the collapsed roof! FAIL!

One plus point, the lancia fans just helped me complete the CCW crossword from about 5 weeks back! Who writes the bloody thing? clues are either obscure or awful... (soz in advance if it's you, Ian.)

I'm not even gonna attempt that.... Not quite sure I understand how the suspension is supposed to work either......?

I think you're about 40 years too early for my kind of motoring

Looks like 1920s but none of the stuff I know from that era has that type of rear springs

Posted

I don't think that's the original set-up! I reckon the axle might be off something different too.

Chassis looks early 30s ladderframe type, take your pick from Ford, Austin, Vauxhall....etc, really. could be a Ford I guess with those turned-down rails at the front. Wheels look like Ford for some reason... Too early for me too. I'm sure someone will know (in fact I know a website where lots of people will know! maybe i'll post it up later  )

The only car that I can find with 3/4 elliptic rear springs and bolt-on wire wheels is the 1925/6 MG 14/28 (sporty bullnose Morris) but it looks a bit high off the ground for a sports car, even a vintage one :?:

Nope not me! Thanks for the feedback though - we do test them in the office! (well, I don't because I don't like crosswords...)

3/4 elliptic springs... 'B' in the picture.

I recon they would date it as 20's or earlier, I don't think any manufacturer used them into the 30's.

Frogeye Sprite and first Mk of Midget used quarter-elliptics I believe.

Quarter, yes. Three quarter was old fashioned even by 1950s BMC standards

Although they may still use them on current American cars
