The plan is just to run it until it breaks in some major way. Ive noticed it jumps out of fifth on a very odd occasion so i suspect the box will be its downfall... for the meantime though im happy to take advantage of its cheapness.

What the hell is that reflection at the bottom?

Seriously, I was working between Glasgow & Falkirk the other week and didn't see a motor older than about a "53" plate, even in Cumbernauld.

SCTSH_ANDY is from Cumbernauld.

it looks tidier in the pics than in the metal.. the random bullets of rust all over the bottoms of the doors dont show up and the arches arent overly clever either. Still, for a couple of months running it will do nicely!

I know what you mean about the lack of older motors up here - the scrappage scheme seems to have done a roaring trade and i rarely see anything older than about an S reg in daily use. There is still plently of shite lurking though, my latest spot was a decrepit 81 Alfa 6... an update on my shiteseeing thread coming soon!

nearly put this over the weighbridge yesterday... the very occasional jumping out of fifth deteriorated to refusing to take fourth or fifth at all... i fired a litre of gear oil in although i was fairly sure it was knackered... but as luck would have it - it worked! 200 miles today with no issues.

I dont have a cash and carry membership so im screwed on the cheap deals there.. asda seem to be the best of the supermarkets just now. They are doing a two for a fiver deal on the 3 litre bottles just now which I think works out at 83p a litre. Much better than lidls 98p!

Its amazing how many dirty looks and tut tuts you get when standing in the car park firing the veg oil into your motor though - the vast majority seem to think its illegal.

I find it even worse decanting used oil from old chain oil drums, I'm sure it looks like I'm using kerosene or red diesel.

Well, I weighed in the vectra this morning. it did 6 weeks of 200 miles a day 6 days a week so running the veg saved me a fortune. Fifth Gear finally went a week or so ago, but I kept driving it anyway. Ten fourth went, coupled with the now bald tyres, slipping clutch and grinding brakes i decided it was time to take it down the scrappy.

Scrap price has gone down a bit but i still walked with £180, plus i have a months tax to cash in and i nicked the CD player and battery so its happy days.

I'm sure it doesn't look dodgy at all.

Have you got a replacement lined up Dave?

Posted

Dave, where did you chop the car in...?

Henry Grays in kirkcaldy - they're paying the best price just now. £180 for the vecta - but theyll pay more if you have something big like a scorpio - quoted me £230 for my mates one.

Replacement - No - Im going back to the cougar /cortina since I only have to do the stupid commute for another week, so I dont have to do mingebag. I will keep an eye out for another tho

Cheers Dave,

Whats the story with the Scorpio you mate has...?

It's a 2.3 with leather interior and probably rusty by now...I MOT'd it about 3-4 years ago and it just got laid up and sits there

Its a bug eye 2.0 ultima with full ford SH stamped up to date! it has suspension issues though and i think a steering problem, plus some pondlife installed several large dents along one side of it following a night out he was on in Glasgow which is the killer.

Shame as the interior is pristine leather with all the toys and engine wise its good, just not worth doing anything with.
