pogweasel Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 ... are back, baby! I know we've had them on the RX7 and Bini Clubman in a tiny & pointless form, but now they are fullsize. Just saw an add for this silly Vauxhall on the telly (look out for the shite-content Manta!): Interestingly, one of the buzzwords for these is 'safety'. So why did we stop having them before.... "Embrace life" goes the slogan, because opening one of these to depart the vehicle could curtail it, I guess.
wuvvum Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Link FAIL. In other news, I love suicide doors, especially when they open to a full 90 degrees - makes egress so much easier.
pogweasel Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 I can see pics? http://www.opel.tv/index.php?channel=mo ... ignTour_en
wuvvum Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I can see pics too: a pic of a P4 Cyclops and a pic of some smoke. The clickable link works though. Looks like we can all look forward to being sat behind a pair of suicide doors doing 38mph in a 60 for the next few years...
dollywobbler Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Is this one of those 'new' design ideas where they conveniently forget that people have done it before? Like 'adaptive' headlights that let you see around corners (just like a DS).
mattblack Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I would imagine they have some sort of safety device that will prevent them being opened while the vehicle is moving?
Milford Cubicle Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Is this one of those 'new' design ideas where they conveniently forget that people have done it before?5-door executive cars.
pogweasel Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 I would imagine they have some sort of safety device that will prevent them being opened while the vehicle is moving? It's not when the suicide-door-equipped car is moving... Park, open the offside rear door, as you step out the door gets clattered by a passing oaf in a transit... Result: one severed lower limb. Front-hinged door would get mullered by the same incident, but your leg has a pretty good chance of staying intact.
dollywobbler Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Is this one of those 'new' design ideas where they conveniently forget that people have done it before?5-door executive cars.Oh yes. They all forgot the Maxi HLS!

Saying that dont black cabs have them?

Like 'adaptive' headlights that let you see around corners (just like a DS).Or the Renault Laguna with 4WS: 'Reinventing the wheel'. Remember the 626 and Prelude mes amis?
Volksy Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Saying that dont black cabs have them? Not any more, all the newer 'London' Cabs (TX Series i think), have rear doors hinged at the front. Although I bet there is still a lot of older FX series cabs still in use.
