The other three are illumination, then another live and a 12v out power aerial feed I think, though not 100% sure it’s in that order. The four bottom pairs of sockets look like they are the speaker feeds, again a standard connector ( the name escapes me ) and new ones readily available on eBay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255761699085 I see there are another six terminals to the right of the fuse which look unfamiliar. At a guess maybe related to some form of amplifier or additional speakers, tweeters perhaps? Thanks. ill need to have a proper look into it, and get a Haynes. the Ariel lead survives in the car undamaged so that’s a bonus

Homersimpson Posted Thursday at 21:50 Posted Thursday at 21:50 I bought one of these back around 2006 and put the engine into a Ferrari Dino replica as it shared the same bolt patten for the gearbox with a Lancia Beta which the kitcar was based on. The Tipo had been side swiped and was in a bit of a state, heres a much younger me putting the engine in and wiring it up. I used the entire engine management system, ECU etc. I remember having a problem where the crank sensor and lambda sensor had the same plugs and I got them swapped over, that took me ages to find. Apart from the damage the Tipo looked a really nice car. Wibble, cort1977, BorniteIdentity and 4 others 7
Simon_punto Posted Friday at 10:19 Author Posted Friday at 10:19 Woke up this morning to a WhatsApp message from one of the Fiat techs at my old work…. High Jetter, Lanciaman, BorniteIdentity and 7 others 10
Zelandeth Posted Friday at 16:36 Posted Friday at 16:36 That looks like a fun thing. I never knew that model existed to be honest. Guessing then that the engine in this is what the very popular Fiat/Lancia twin cam of the 70s/80s evolved into? All Fiats of that time period seem to be really nice things to drive, old neighbour had a Tempra estate with basically every option available ticked. It was a really pleasant thing to drive, and seemed to have way more room in the back than seemed possible given the exterior dimensions. Only surprise looking at that and given how well kitted out it looks is they didn't put the digital dash in it, or would that have been seen as too futuristic and detached for what they were clearly pitching as a driver's car?

When I was looking for a Tipo, it had to be either a DGT or a 16v. I wish it had a digi dash though. My dad had an 89 DGT and it was really cool. It broke a lot but it was cool, but the 16v has 3 separate gauges in a pod in the centre of the dash for oil pressure, oil temp and water temp to compensate.

The ‘cooking’ models had the digi dash. I think my dad’s was an SX and that had it. Used to go off at random. But it had a digital boost gauge so that kept me entertained.

I do remember thinking when borrowing that one that reliability issues aside, Fiat really did a decent job of coming up with a seriously futuristic looking setup which actually did work far better in the real world than a lot of digital setups. Biggest problem I remember was the response time of the LCD elements becoming so slow at -10C (this was towards the north of the Aberdeenshire area) that the second digit in the speedometer and the rev counter became basically useless until the interior had started to warm up! Did look incredibly cool though. Have to admit that a Tempra does remain on my list pretty much purely because of that dash!
IronStar Posted Friday at 20:07 Posted Friday at 20:07 Can the digidash be retrofitted? I saw a few digidash ones here being broken for parts or sold as an entire rusty car for not much. I’m half way across Europe though.

Simon_punto Posted Saturday at 16:41 Author Posted Saturday at 16:41 A few more wee bits done today on the car- My older style replica plates arrived. I wanted the old style font with some sort of period correct Fiat logo at the bottom so had these made up and fitted them. Also charged the battery right up and treated the leather on the steering wheel to leather cleaner and conditioner. An owner in the past had painted the Fiat slats on the front grille Matt black, and I want it as close to original as possible, so I took it all apart and painted them Matt silver for just now. In my opinion, the front of the car looks much better and less chavved up if that makes sense? I’ll need to look out for a set of correct chrome slats, but like everything else, unobtainable unless from Italy with stupid postage costs. hennabm, wesacosa, RayMK and 16 others 18 1
MAF260 Posted yesterday at 09:13 Posted yesterday at 09:13 Do you want this for £15 posted? 1/24 scale. Even has the red tinted rear lights! hennabm 1
tom13 Posted yesterday at 12:52 Posted yesterday at 12:52 My older brother had one of these. It must have been around 2000. He wrote it off on a big crossroads by our house when someone jumped the lights. I thought it was so cool and I have never seen another one on the road since. Even a normal Tipo is hard enough to see.

tul66 Posted 59 minutes ago Posted 59 minutes ago I might have a Heynes manual for it somewhere, might be for the early ones though.
AnthonyG Posted 2 minutes ago Posted 2 minutes ago The reason your car was unregistered for a year may be because I don’t think they were quick sellers, even if there were only 500 of them bought over. Apart from the Uno Turbo, which I’m not sure was still available in 1992, Fiat didn’t have a performance image. Also the GTI market boom was coming to an end in the early 1990s due to insurance costs, and even the big sellers like the XR3 etc were struggling. I expect insurance on one of these would have been considerably more than for a more well known model like the Golf GTI. Plus there was a short-lived recession in 90-92 which the country really only shook off a couple of years later. All in all, it wasn’t a great time to launch a limited performance version of a hatchback not made by one of the big players. I suspect the vast majority of Fiat dealers probably didn’t really understand how to market it to their customer base either. It’s a bit like the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus, they fetch silly money now, and Talbot won a rally championship with them, but due to the initial high price and the marginal value of the Talbot brand they took an absolute age to sell. They were all built before the factory that assembled them closed in late 1981, but many were unsold and the stock had to be refurbished and discounted heavily in 1983/4 to clear the decks.
