what kind of mpg is it returning?

Have not worked it out yet but not as bad as you would think.. I stuck £20 in on Sunday, have done about 60-70 miles and still got quarter left.. Parkers reckons 400 miles to a full tank. I reckon it wouldn't be far off.

Its been having that problem where it doesn't go into 'D' properly, except.. now it is going into D every time - twat being its booked into the garage on Thursday for full cable replacement and next month hopefully gearbox flush and fill.

Best it is absolutely spot on though, It does goes into Drive perfect when cold.. when warm you have to push it into D quite hard... and if you have the knack.. you can get Drive ererytime its not just not ideal.

Going from Hull to Newcastle on Saturday.. several hundreds of Miles to cover - was debating whether to take the Jag but alas... Renault is not ready yet so it will have ti be the Jag ... what A bind eh? But least I know it will be right whilst im up North.

Slight coolant leak, not sure where as yet will keep an eye on it. Ive had coolant leaks on Jags before.. usually either Thermostat housing or Header tank. It is only slight.

Update: Its been on the ramp this morning - gear linkage replaced with new... transformation has happened. Its exactly how it should be now!

Coolant leak is thermostat housing. Will need doing soon. Along with Rocker Gaskets.

But today was the start of transforming the car. There was an X type already in on the left.... Clattery diesel lol.

Nice to see an X type getting some love. I owned one for 5 years, it was only a 2.1 auto - so 90% of the thirst and 60% of the performance of the 2.5, but it was a lovely smooth drive and made the right V6 noise.

The Internet bores will mention all the mondeo bits (actually not that much on the 4wd cars). I always considered that a plus point, my controversial opinion is that the ford era Jags are better built than any before or since.

I agree (based on having had 2 Ford era X350s) and I'd say it applies to my Ford-era Land Rover too.

the 2,1 I believe was a Mazda engine.

NO 4 wheel on this one, just RWD.

I like the fact it's built atop Mondeo bits. Nothing wrong with any Mondeo of any sort - Ford era built Jags are definitely built better I would agree with that, shes a bit thirsty but thats part and parcel of owning such a vehicle.

It's a real head turner being in White It really does get attention. One of the guys in the garage today even said its the best looking X type hes seen, there was an 09 one on the ramp as well when mine was in.

2.5 & 3.0s are all 4wd - they never made a rear wheel drive version as far as I know. Does it have driveshafts at the front?

2.5 and 3.0 are 4x4, the rest are fwd. Yes, they used some Mondeo bits. Makes those bits so much cheaper!

It's defo RWD only... when I was on the ramp testing the gear linkage I had only the rear wheels spinning whilst about only an inch off the ground testing Drive , 2, 3, 4 / Reverse.

Front wheels did not move when I had it in D on the ramp only the Rear Wheels. Mind having said this, I couldn't actually see the front wheels... I shouted to the Apprentice are the wheels moving and he said at the back, yes. Could have been winding me up I guess. Dont think I saw any 4 wheel drive gubbins when I had it on the ramp.

How would one tell?

We’ve been hit by the weekends storm, checking my cameras at my office - the bin men had not locked up my commercial bin, t’was in the middle of the road.

This is a job for All Wheel Drive, went down to my unit and rescued the bin from the middle of the road (literally) - absolutely lovely drive in the X type. No one else on the road! Was most enjoyable. I went the back roads way and the X type handled it like it was on rails!
Took it steady of course.

it really does drive very well, and for once I actually enjoyed the drive across the city which is usually un-enjoyable! So much so, I did not go straight home after the Bin rescue, came the long way home around the back roads and very much enjoyed it!

yeah, really enjoyed the drive this morning!

Taxed it this morning, but back in the garage.

A boring update:

Had a spare key done, manual key no key fob - immobiliser chip has been cloned from main key though so this starts the car.

In an Drawer, found an old key fob from an old S type.

Programmed it to the X Type and voila.... Spare key with fob.

Having only one key freaks me out!

If I have a spare of anything I tend to 'misplace' both, having just one makes me more careful with it.

40 mile run this morning - it is stupidly smooth this thing!

Do you know I actually think the seats in this are comfier then the leather ones that where in my S-Types.. its certainly feeling comfier on longer runs.

Decided this is up for sale, £1500. I'll wait until a car comes up that I want - I think £1500 is fair for an MOT'd until June car!

Such a good looking car, I know it’s not a proper Jaaaaaaaaag, but it behaves like one! I keep comparing it to my previous petrol S Types, and I shouldn’t really - it is actually nothing like them at all. The 2.5 somehow seems quicker off the mark than the 3 litres which is pretty much the same engine! This could be due to it being All wheel drive.

The steering seems heavier than the S Types but I always thought the S types needed it heavier as it felt over assisted, a bit like my Espace, that properly light - the lightest I’ve ever come across, but it’s too light really. I like to be able to feel the road through the steering and with this X type you definitely can, I really have thrown it round some bends as well and it just handles like it’s on rails - I hate that phrase but it’s true.

I like the gear change, it’s to smooth you can’t even hear or feel it change gear, which my old S Types, I did not like the boxes in those as even though they where serviced etc would often bang into gear, the only time this has an issue, is if it has been very cold, it holds into gears just a little bit longer but from what I’ve read online, this is OK as the box is still warming up and sloshing its oil about - my old S types where not as smooth as this for changing gear - I wish they had been!

Really enjoyed a drive today, so much so I now need to fill the tank again!

It must go though!

It's got a Jag badge and was built by Jaguar. Its a proper Jag. Yes, not a "Sir William Lyons" Jag, but ther me is still heavy influences and traces of it in that Jag. I, for one am glad that the X-type exists.

Good luck with sale, I doubt you'll need any luck.
