trigger Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Not sure what the canned laughter was all about, it wasn't very funny!, Nice to see Greengrass in it though.
lancashireclamper Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I remember watching this as a kid and thinking it was the funniest thing on tv, got the dvd a few weeks ago off ebay and couldn't wait to watch it again, found it totally unfunny, clumsy and wooden, never laughed once, maybe comedy was simpler in the 80's or I'm just a miserable old **** now!
Cavcraft Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I loved that programme. Station's link not visible but didn't he run round in a tatty white P6 V8 Rover with loads of parking tickets under the wipers?

HillmanImp Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Do not recall this at all. Hear what you are saying about things that used to be funny, but aren't anymore. I don't think that they were not funny at the time, in a lot of cases its just that the jokes are not new anymore. By now you will have heard them hundreds of times.
warren t claim Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Have you got to the episode where he tries to buy a pink (I think) XJ6 yet?

Station Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 I vaguely remember it from when I was young, but can't remember a thing about what it was about. I remember pushing my brother round in a pedal go-kart, crashing into things in the back yard singing 'he's the gaffer', emulating the intro to this programme! I actually don't think those programmes from the 70's/80's are too bad. I watch George & Mildred if it's on.
Lord Sterling Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Lol, never seen this one before. Love the cheesy title music. I found it pretty funny on occasions but there is a little too much dialogue and slight overacting, but then again, the programme doesnt appear to take itself seriously, which is pretty refreshing. I think our level of humour has changed over the years though and we seem to expect quick fire humour every couple of seconds. Despite that I'd much rather watch this than alot of the newer crap on TV nowadays. Like the Gaffer, I also sport facial furniture (Though not as much) and drive a tatty old White Rover. Sadly thats were the similarities end....
Jack_Harpers_Teeth Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I am a fictional character from a 1970s comedy programme. I am also here to tell you life is actually pretty good too.
