...because my new car is not shite!

Well at least I don't think it is.

It is a 230E, and even has an 'S' on the autobox. It has air con, full electrics and Cruise control too174k on the clock though!

Stonking! Nice machine. MOAR PICS

That looks beautiful! I love old Mercedes. Please do show some more pics when you get chance. If you still have the Bluebird you can stay :P

Hmmm. You may have a point. The 230 is quite good.Don't get excited though - S stands for 'slope' not Sport. Thought it seems to have much the same effect!

The Bluebird is sold, and will be gone in 10 days. :(

Here's one teaser pic, more to follow when I can.

These don't tick any boxes whatsoever for me, they just look unlovable and fugly (I think it's that grille) and the interior looks uncomfortable and too board-room like, but I bet you they're lovely to drive. Can I ask, is that a small toilet roll holder to the right of the steering wheel?

Posted

I like these, I wish I could find a cheap and useable 240/300D but I think those days are long gone.Borderline cla**ic but still fairly shite I think.

They're interesting to drive. More relaxing than listening to Air after a glass of wine, while lying on the world's most comfortable sofa. The pace of the rest of the world just doesn't matter any more.Which is good as these things are a bit wobbly on the bends.Bog roll holder is the handbrake. I quite liked that bit myself...

That's the handbrake.

Oops, beaten to it.Yep, they're not the best handling of cars, but they're so laid back it doesn't matter. They can be made to go surprisingly quickly in a straight line though.I had a W124 230TE which had a 4-speed autobox, but it used to always pull away in second unless you really floored it, which brought in a very low first gear which made it very nippy off the line. Don't think the W123 had the same setup though did it?

I'd love to smoke about in a w123....trouble is I would be bankrupt in a few days with the fuel costs!Surprised you have sold the Bluey....thought you were well impressed with it and hadn't seen it for sale anywhere.

Posted

Do like that - my sister and me used to get one of these as a taxi to primary school every morning - wedding car white. It had the best rear seat because it was bouncy!

No idea, mine is soooo bogo it's a manual......

I had a C plate 280TE which was lovely.I've always considered the 2.3 to be shite, so there's no need to leave!

Wuv - the W124 has a different (and even smoother) gearbox. My 300D would get into second gear almost immediately. That wasn't really quick in a straight line, but as you say, the 230s have a decent turn of pace, and aren't as fuel slurping as the Sixes.

Do like these. Only problem I have with them is the hardness of the seats. Everyone I've ever driven has had rock hard seats - presumably the Germans like that.

Great choice of car my friend but I would say that, bearing in mind I also have a B reg W123 230E! Any more info? Spec, condition?Keep us posted on how it's going.Peter C

Anybody who puts slotmags on a Nissan is worthy of a place in any forum, if you ask me. :) Have you sold them along with the Bluebird? If not, gerrem on this if they'll fit! :)

On my 126 the 'S' on the auto box is 'standard', as opposed to 'E' which is the economy mode. It does indeed set off in 2nd in economy, which I find highly annoying when it goes 2nd, 1st, scream, 2nd again...

It's for sale, coincidentally. (The whole thing, not just the auto box...)

That looks great and a bit of bargain, if I say so myself.

How's the bodywork?

ALL AROUND BODY WORK NEEDS TIDYING UP ABIT

What does that mean?
