Stupid Question!!

Hi,I know this may sound like a stupid question but I am going to France next Saturday to pick up a Renault 14.When I get back onto UK soil should I put a French sticker on the back as it is obviously going to be French registered or would it be okay without as the driver is a British Citizen?I know this may sound like a stupid question and I apologise if it is!Thanks,Pete.

I don't think the country stickers are a legal obligation. If it bothers you that much, get one stuck on. Most country abbreviations are on the number plates now, so the stickers kind of fell by the wayside.

You do have to have some form of sticker or whatever showing the country - be it on the reg plate or a sticker. That said the possibility of being stopped for it is approximately 0.000001% so I wouldn't worry too much.Excellent work though! Whereabouts in France are you getting it from? I trust there will be a full story and pictures to follow :D

I've never bothered with GB stickers when driving over there, and never had any hassle - can't see the plod on this side of ze Sleeve being too fussed either.

Many congratulations on your purchase, by the way. I R JELLUS.

What he said.Just drive as if you own the road and will never, ever die and the world will recognise you as a Frenchman behind the wheel.NB: Straight-lining roundabouts is de rigeur :wink:

Nice one organist! Are you planning on using it as a daily or bit of fun/parts source for a RHD model?Look forward to hearing about the journey back and seeing pics. Nice wee road trip!

and if you wear a greasy beret, a three day beard and have an unfiltered cigarette hanging from your lip you will blend in even better

:lol::lol:

Daily(ish) alongside my 1100! I take the train to work anyway so its more for fun/leisure purposes, something that cannot be said for commuting by car through the Black Country!

Tbh it is a bit of a gamble as I have not even seen it in the metal yet, the vendor says that it drives and does not seem worried about me taking in back to England, just that the "paintwork" needs some work.

If it turns out to be only fit for spares then I purchase another one in France and break that one up or offer it on here to any Renault 14 owners.

Hopefully it will be okay though.

Thanks,

Pete.

Pete-ask HIM to drive it to Le Havre. Pay him for the trip -(paypal?)and then cross as a foot passenger-the savings should cancel the added cost.That way you'll not have to drive on French roads- you'll know its capable of a100 mile trip and if its indeed a real munter-you can walk away.Newhaven -Dieppe is cheaper,and equidistant to Pareee.

Have just asked him.I rang the AA to arrange Euro Breakdown Cover and they do not do it for foreign registered vehicles, and a couple of others I rang said the same.I may try to arrange some French cover, however trying to explain to a French call centre that I have broken down in English may be quite interesting!Pete.
