EMWalhalla - NL's answer to FOTU! (Pic heavy)

I'm never normally one for posting wads of photos from a car show, but this one is special enough to merit an exception.

As detailed in my garage thread (Link in sig) I went with a few like-minded shite enthusiast friends. The Nippa was our limiting factor with an annoying vibration at 70, so we stayed at 60 the entire time, which was heaven for the Rover's MPG!

Walkie talkies proved their worth one again, both with co-ordinating overtakes as a convoy (42bhp requires forward planning!) and general banter and conversations for the many solo hours spent driving.

Anyway, less chatting, more photos.

Anyway, with a classic show this large, could you possibly guess what the most common car was there?

Mk1 Escort?

MGB?

Mini?

Nope....

Honda Beat. Seven of them!

(You aren't going to guess the second most common either, not in a million years)

This next chap was a bloody lunatic - not only had he owned this Honda S800 for 25 years, he's been driving them for 52 years, and even used it to tow that trailer to the show!

This couple had driven from Edinburgh to Germany for a holiday, heard about the show and decided to 'pop in', so I wasn't the only R-reg UK Rover there!

Anyway, onto the second most common car of the show.

Capri?

Fiat 500?

Granada?

Nah.

Probably the only show in the world where you'll find these two parked together!

Despite the entire event being free to enter (it runs on donations), entry to the Toyota Museum where the show was held was free.

Back outside, and just before the show finished, @chatsharris and I were invited to driver a couple of classics.

Alex got to go in a Caddy:

And I got to drive a Fiat 130 automatic, which was lovely, although the brakes were....interesting.

The next day, we took the Chunnel back home, which was a delight queuing up for in 26c heat with no breeze, no shade, and no air conditioning!

Spotted @Mr_Bo11ox and he spotted us!

Spotted some noisy exotica.

The Skoda had some sort of cooling issue as the temperature would creep up quite a lot in traffic - never overheated though thankfully!

The Skoda wasn't the only one worrying about the temperature of their engine bay.

The SL broke down on the other side of the barrier, having overheated.

This was a 10/10 show for me, both in the experience of the journey, and the actual show when we got there. I wholeheartedly recommend it, and if you're worried about the language barrier, don't be - we stayed in Belgium the night before and NL the night after and there were never any issues. Everyone there was lovely and we're already planning to go next year, in greater numbers.

Cheers!

Was very impressed by what was on display last year (thanks to Hubnut) for the footage and this year seems to be just as good. The variety and survival rate of obscure stuff like this just seems so much better compared to the UK despite NL's very anti-old car policies. Would have loved to get a chance to drive the Allante, where else would you get the chance!

That wasn’t a vibration at 70. I was just scared to go that fast.

Our very own @inspec71 has made a video documenting the weekend which gives a feel for the travel, accommodation and the show itself - well worth a watch 😁

It's an amazing show. Great pics. I was gutted to miss it this year due to ill health. I love that a show this size has a car driving element. That's my friend Aart who owns the Caddy and Fiat.

For more Dutch awesomeness, Japan Classic Sunday this year is at a new venue and has a very similar vibe, just with more Japanese naturally (Korea and Malaysia-born cars also welcome). 7th July

Looks amazing! Definitely one for the List Of Things To Do, ditto Japanese Classic Sunday.

What a cracking range of unusual motors. The champagne Alpine looks sublime, amongst others including the mk 1 Astra. If I didn't do a job which limited my holiday timings, I'd be asking to join the convoy next year!

Not seeing a MK1 Escort or any of the usual generic classics in great quantities here was the absolute best.
