looks like the bearing's had water ingress.

Yeah, that one had, I think just moisture from the air. The seals were no more good.

It's all been cleaned and replaced. Just took it out loaded 4 up and it's nice and quiet.

Went to the city today.

Did good, loaded 4 up.

(UK 24 mpg). The city streets, smooth like the moon, finished the rear shocks off so I ordered a new set, which should be in towards the end of the week.

A little electrical troubleshooting.

20241117_133527.jpg.e88f49a0b1b870355963a0945bb7546c.jpg

Some crusty fuses meant a couple things weren't working properly; cleaned those up and now, specifically, I have a working coolant boost pump.

Also satisfies the OCD to make sure all the fuses are the same way around.

That one was a lot better, being on the inside and not in the engine compartment.

Placing the fuse box in the scuttle is a favourite. Gets nice and wet, and we all know how good that is for electrical connections don't we! FFS!

Pah, if you had proper OCD you'd have sorted them from lowest to highest values in order for aesthetic purposes! :)

What were they thinking with that layout? ;)

The fuse box in the boot/trunk well is the most vulnerable on these. Water leaks around the rear light clusters, fills the well and drowns the fuse box.

Posted

They should make a drain hole in the boot. At least then the water would have somewhere to go!

Posted

There is one in the spare wheel well - but you have to remember to lift the bung slightly before it floods. I found this out too late.

Posted

This one has the bung removed, so should be ok. The main point of water ingress was from the fuel filler neck area where the old rubber piece had split. Since replacing that the trunk has been dry.

New light bulbs, for a quick fix tonight.

Little incandescent bulbs again.

Suspension work today because the spares I bought arrived.

20241123_103221.thumb.jpg.5543e00a8bed285a0162a703b8166c44.jpg

Managed to figure out how to get it all to pieces.

20241123_103723.thumb.jpg.7f5575a9c550e7a691800aae6a54e78d.jpg

The spring isolator had seen better days.

20241123_113302.thumb.jpg.fccdde2bc5412b16fb9bf0d8c730e6c5.jpg

Both the top and bottom mounts on the shock had disintegrated.

All back in after a fight. Makes a difference! Quieter and the handling is noticably better.

New water pump arrived in.

Pulled the bolts. All but one which sheared off.

Ugh.

Spent a bit of time today and dismantled everything on the front of the water handling for the car.

20241130_104202.thumb.jpg.cd26e350390e8b4b9efe62929489ccef.jpg

Drilled out the bolt.

20241130_144019.thumb.jpg.6679b6f9baa651a26217ac5ac163dc79.jpg

New pump now secured correctly and sealed up.

20241130_101022.thumb.jpg.bda611cfc848eff84d54116094f1984a.jpg

New thermostat fitted. The old one didn't open. The pump has a bypass that opens if the thermostat is closed, at high RPM to supply extra cooling for if the engine is under high load. That was what allowed me to drive home and not overheat.

Gave it a road test tonight and it holds temperature at any speed .

After a fast run, coming to a halt there has been a smell of burning oil. I finally tracked it down to a slight weep hiding under the intake pipework on the back of the passenger side cam cover.

20241202_160846.thumb.jpg.e39946fea4f6bbab88c2f0dde4ab9261.jpg

I pulled it all apart, cleaned it up.

20241202_161410.thumb.jpg.9ba823418ca1c425548e61987c9e7a45.jpg

I'll be damned if that'll leak now. The sealant they say to just use a few dabs of here and there. Well, that lid is warped so it's got a full bead now.

20241202_171529.thumb.jpg.11fc7236bb47ac141b96894b9f805bb2.jpg

Replaced the last of the bulbs inside that weren't working, up in the overhead console.

20241202_171541.thumb.jpg.20cc9092f8386e7fa8c4af862a1ad813.jpg

Cleaned the dome and map light lenses, and also polished the reflectors because they were dull and slightly corroded. Much brighter now.

Put some foam on the top of the high level brake light because it was chattering against the rear window over big bumps and cleaned all the glass in the car.

Figured out how to save radio presets also so I've got my favorites in it instead of the best station memory automatic search.

Ungrateful ruddy thing!

At least their new pink or blue models won't do that ;-)

Somewhat annoyingly, it fixed itself.

20241206_115342.thumb.jpg.94968ed28a73b53d3d722ecee9ef5545.jpg

I've ordered a code reader so I'll plug that in and see if anything is stored in memory.

I cleaned up the seal on the cap. It feels much more positive now.

New water pump died. Ordered a replacement, old one is being warranted.

Started the process a week ago.

Logistics like this are annoying. It sat in Texas for 5 days at their depot. I live in the arrowed place.

So, it got within a mile of my house and then got sent away again. The new person working at the PO isn't particularly observant. I qualify that as a significant flaw because the purpose of the PO is to read the words on the paper and determine where it needs to go based upon that action.

Maybe I'll get the pump by the end of the week. After these shenanigans it better not leak...

Now, it went to New Orleans, and now it's back in Houma.

Pulled the water pump off in prep.

A perfectly well labeled, undamaged box arrived here.

The last one took 2 days from the same depot, this one 2 weeks.

Question not the logistics
