Escrot - Mk1 Escort Estate back garden escapee

I've known about this car for 6-7 years. Was in a town near me parked in somebody's back garden, most of it was obscured by a shed and a Renault 5. I dont think it was visible via a car either but fortunately I often passed in the passenger seat of a 7.5t lorry so could see over gate etc. You could see about 1/10th of the back of it.. and while I am reasonable at identifying cars i am no 'Barret', but unfortunately for me I've been a Mk1/Mk2 Escort fan for ages and had a few in recent years so know them well

I'd always wondered what it was doing in this back garden, did kind of want to ask about it was it looked a cool brown colour but assumed it would be a never started project.

Anyway, I was out for a drive in my car a couple of weeks ago and spotted it out in the open! I was bloody excited seeing it there by the roadside. Fortunately I had my camera with me and was in queuing traffic so got a drive-by pic.

Was looking a fine shed. I planned to return in an hour...

Parked my car up and got a better pic while stood on someones garden, and then began running back to my car.

While running away back to the salvation of my Honda I hear an 'oi, oi, what you taking pics of?!'. D'oh. It was a girls voice, so decided to return.

Young lady behind the fence wondered what I was taking pics of, and had a MASSIVE dog next to her, front legs on fence, face to face with me (i'm over 6'). Tell her the truth, and she's fine and somewhat surprised that I want pics of the shed. Apparently it's her Landlords and was meant to be a 'project'. She allows me a few more pics but would prefer me to be quick about it. The area/town is known as being a bit rough and to be honest I was grateful she didnt want to kill me. Anyway, a few more pics.

Nice innit? Was really good condition inside, I managed to delete a pic of the dash but was registering 40000-ish I think

I went passed again 3-4 days later and it'd gone..

That's ace. I like the irony of there being a Ford garage in the background!

Myself and Autoplas of this parish rescued one exactly the same from an old dear's garage on Canvey Island about 10 years ago.....it was supposed to be a project for someone, but if I remember his better half protested, and it got moved on.Shame, I would have had it...

Nice find! Hope it gets saved, although being a MK1 Escort I can't see how it wouldn't get some attention!

Posted

I imagine it'll be broken for spares and have the ID sold to a Mk2 Escort Estate owner, with it being tax excempt..

Looks very original. I bet there'd be someone out there keen enough to weld it up.

Thats ace, would love to own that beast.I hope it gets rescued and returns to our roads.good spot.!

Sure that was on ebay recently... Still love the shape of these things. 8) I will have another. Or possibly even the same one again.

That's ace!Needs a Cossie transplant and minilites though ;)

the 1977 Range-Rover all bought new and then just garaged up when no longer used.

PERK!

I doubt that it will get used again, or come on to the market as I think they last disposed of a car in 1960

I know that 'Scort, used to see it bimbling around New Ollerton now and again. I first saw it in Edwinstowe YEARS ago. It's a lovely thing and looks like an early L model just after Ford went from the Deluxe and Super models to L and XK.It's worth having a sneaky peak around the back of Tuxford Garage for shitters now and again. I've raped a few bits from scrappers over the years and it must be one of the UK's oldest Ford dealers. I think it started off in the late seventies.

what a lovely ol' thing i hope its saved :(

Thats ace that is. Nice work as per Gompo! Hopefully its gone off to a better fate, considering it had been 'dug out' means its either been sold or scrapped.

Yep, you got it. I actually had a peek around the back of the Ford garage last year hoping to spot something either from 'Scrappage' or otherwise, but there wasnt much about. I think they must share it with another company as there was a few buses around there.Cheers.

Tuxford must be one of the oldest Ford dealers left now. The only other one I can think of that remains unruined is Misterton Garage near Crewkerne. They opened up in around 1976/7 as a Ford dealer. They had loads of old part exchange shit around the back in 1982 - Mark 1 Scorts, Crapis and even a 100E.Misterton is a small village, and when their first Sierra arrived it caused quite a stir.I wonder when Tuxford Road Garage opened?

Apologies on the missing of a 't', Barrett. I had been keeping an eye out on Ebay but not seen anything yet. The garage place that built Colin McRae's Mk2 Escort (Red one a short while before his death) is only a couple of miles down the road, wouldnt surprise me if they got it.

Is that Graham Lepley? I sold his Bro an RS1600 once.

The place that bit Colin's Escort was DJM Motorsport, however, there is a 'Lepley' nearby that dealt with Escorts but I think his name was Jason. There is also a place called 'Prepfab', which I reckon could be run by another Lepley.. so probably one of them.
