Marshall2810 Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Could @brownnova @Talbotor another admin move this to the thread section please? Would make it easier to follow
delux Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Been a bit too busy recently but the Forester started to develop a negative attitude towards starting. I had previously changed the fuel pump as a boot to the fuel tank seemed to revive it but the car began taking exception to this treatment! Didnt have the correct wiring diagram so got a rough idea from the impreza one... Live from relay wasnt reaching the pump but was coming out the relay... At a guess, given the cars vintage I would have checked from the pump forward but all my tools were at the front and it was too cold to fu...mess about so I checked at plug R1 in the drivers kick panel, and....no power! Probably the least exciting pic on the whole website but this little bend i the wire caused by a cable tie was the cause of the problem! Being a smart alec fully equipped mechanic I pulled the wiring out, removed the offending wire, made a new one up with some nice new connectors and taped it up nice. Bloody wire! Was in such a good mood I treated it to a wash! Anyway, coming up to Christmas/my big annual holiday/shifting toolbox to latest contract so Forester is back to staring at the back of the lock up door until January. mk2_craig, Tickman, Minimad5 and 8 others 11
neacon88 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Hey, I've been a lurker on this site from some time, but haven't commented before. Kudos for saving the Forester, there aren't a whole lot left on the road anymore, nice to see one being saved. I have a 99 S Turbo that I hope to have back on the road in the next month or two. I also bought another as a breaker, and its the same colour codes as your one! Here is the advert just in case you need any parts: Ebay advert delux and mercedade 2

Im on holiday now but will be back by the end of the month (unless the island runs out of Kopperberg/Irn bru/bacon/sunshine) What are the bumpers like? I can live with scuffs and scratches but the ones on mine are cracked and split. If the bumpers are acceptable (and not a crazy price!) Ill get a list together and come down for them. Where in the uk are you?

Where in the uk are you? The front bumper is shot unfortunately, the person before me put a saw to it to get at something behind it! The rear bumper has plenty of scratches and marks, some pretty deep ones. But no cracks or splits that I can see. I'll get some closeup photos and forward them onto you via ebay, I see you messaged me there too. I'm in Ireland by the way, but I could parcel large items up for courier if you were still interested. Anyway, enjoy your trip!
delux Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Dont you just hate it when a thread starts, looks promising then kinda stalls? Oh, do you?! Wish I had your problems! Anyway, now Christmas/Holiday in the Canaries/Starting new contract/replacing the clutch in the Colt I've managed to get the Forester back in the workshop. I've said, since I started it that the car looks worse than it is and now I have evidence. Things got off to a great start when I started unscrewing the spare wheel... Thankfully that was the only bad surprise. Rear suspension turrets are actually pretty good... Chuffed to bits, seen far worse on newer Subarus. Meant I could start pulling the rear suspension apart earlier than I thought... Its had advisories for corrosion on the rear subframe and suspension in the past so I had planned to strip and paint everything and replace the bushes. Problem solving bushes do a full rear end bush kit at a good price (https://psbushings.co.uk) so that should keep me busy! Over the break I've been thinking about what to do with the Forester. Then it came to me... As the suspension is in bits, the lift kit is on its way! (From Ukraine, really!) as are the raised shock absorbers. I've spent all my time lowering cars so its gonna be a nice change! Piggybank has been renamed 'BF Goodrich fund' More next week... Tickman, Dave_Q, Asimo and 6 others 9
delux Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Not many pics this week ut managed to nail the welding in one go. Pretty good for one of my projects! Before you go any further, please remember I am a mechanic with a welder and a rusty old car so dont expect any drilling out spotwelds or OE quality parts... ...so all you real panelbeaters and welders can stop your tittering. There was a hole and now there isnt. It took the weight of the seamsealer so its a win! Next week hopefully some progress on the suspension. 😁 Stinkwheel, Heidel_Kakao, Surface Rust and 9 others 12
Marina door handles Posted March 16 Posted March 16 The welding looks solid enough to me which lets face it is the important bit! I like the idea of the lift kit, should look good and give a bit more off road clearance. delux, N Dentressangle and lesapandre 3
delux Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Yeah, bit different to the usual '...put it on coilovers and fit a bigger turbo...' route! Apparently its quite a popular car for jacking up in Seth Efrica and Australia. According to Nev (who works in one of the garages I work between), who used to run tours in South Africa '...big diesels are good for mountains and mud cos of the torque but for loose stuff like sand you want speed so petrols do better.' Might see about advertising it in the 'Sahara advertiser' or 'Egyptian shopper' when I'm done! 😄 N Dentressangle and Marina door handles 2
delux Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Rear suspension came to work with me for hardcore dismantling. Cutting disc fitted, blowtorch and big bars primed, ready to go... Surprisingly, everything unbolted without hassle. Only had to cut 2 bolts up (and one was a 12mm holding the ABS sensor wire!) which would usually be great news if I hadnt already bought a pile of new bolts from Import car parts! D'oh! Result of a fight with suspension bushes... Happy to be at the 'Clean and paint' stage! More soon... Jazoli, Surface Rust, Marina door handles and 6 others 9
andy18s Posted March 23 Posted March 23 When I worked at Stadco 1 of the other welders had a set of similarly scruffy looking subframes from his Impreza. Took them in after removing all the bushes and ran them through the EPD paint booth,a massive production line for undercoating all of our products before powercoat. 1 of the mangers spotted them as they didn't look much like the JCB front panels that were actually being done at the time...Took them down and demanded the owner collected them. IIRC he never did as I would have been an instant dismissal for him, seemingly pulled a few tricks before and was on thin ice.. delux 1
delux Posted March 30 Posted March 30 This weeks episode of 'Fife Hotrod!' Pretty boring really, theres been lots of rust removal, wire brushing, sanding, coughing and sneezing out powdered rust and painting! New shock absolvers... They are raised heavy duty ones. Along with 50mm spacers! With the suspension drying I thought it would be a good time to knock up some nice, neat brake pipes. YEAH! More next week when the paints dry! mk2_craig, Honey Badger, angle and 6 others 9
delux Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Not very exciting this week. Didnt have much time so the time I had was taken up with cleaning and painting. As exciting as watching paint.... Anyway, rear subframes back on... and the suspension bushes have been replaced... Put your arms in the air! Because of the lift kit I had to fit spacers to the trailing arms. Had to get longer bolts too... Rolling about underneath is now excitingly dangerous! cbowditch, mk2_craig, Largactil and 2 others 5
