Weird one today, DVLA called about the simson v5 they issued. Apparently it was issued in error and it should be on a plate a letter newer. So fluffy is now something else probably Axxxxx slightly sad about that.

Nissan arse burgling app doesn’t work.

Is this leafspy useful. Will it tell me remotely when it is charged or how long is left? Is there any other benefits to it?

Do I really have to buy a £30 dongle and pay £20 to look at the battery health? Will the cover go over it? Do I need a splitter cable? Will it flatten the battery/make it explode.

Bastard nissan gits.

Yes it is useful, but no, you need to have the car on and nearby to connect to it.  A £8 dongle should do and there used to be a free version of leafspy.

You can unplug the dongle before using a different odb reader, but why would you need to? You can leaf it plugged in all the time, but if your 12v is fucked it won't help.

It doesn't replace the nissan app

Any particular dongle?

Thanks for that have ordered one as compelled to see how borked the battery is. Is just over a mile per % good?

Boringly Mrs B did another 100 miles in it yesterday. It really makes me want a newer one but all the other stuff needs to go first. And I should also get a tariff sorted when this fix ends.

I have no suggestions for a wifi one, not something I've ever had to consider

Don't know , but, there are any number of free apps (iOS)  for OBD2 - Auto Doctor, OBD Fusion,  FORScan Viewer, Mobiiscan etc...

Yeah I have some very competent diagnostic stuff, was wanting to run leaf spy but the leaf may be getting swapped for a newer longer range thing shortly so may not bother.

Fitted the wall charger this evening (yes I know inferno) and about to go for an intentional low efficiency run to see the change in charge time.

That is how uneventful my evenings are.

A second hand Project EV untethered type 2 EVA-07S something or other. Lights up.

This last couple of weeks have mostly been excavation and insurance based. Spent more hours driving a dumper than the cars this week. I have the last grab wagon load going this morning which is the 5th one. Best part of 100 tonnes of shite removed to level the garden, prepare extension footings and dig out the rest of the front for more driveway.

Other than that the leaf has done several 90+ mile round trips and now seems to show 104-110 on the guess-o-meter on average when charged up.

Mrs B must be driving quite gently perhaps as we are seeing 3.8/3.9 average consumption. 5.7p a mile or thereabouts not too shabby. Maybe I shouldn’t be charging it to 100% every time? But every mile counts. Overall a good purchase that.

Renewed the traders policy at the best part of £1400 (doubled in the last 5 years) for the year which stung a bit but means car purchases and the like can continue. Somebody buy this 911! Had one set of questions on c&c and then radio silence. Maybe it is too common/dear I will assess at some point as I would dearly like to try some other cars now.

Jesus Christ :D talk about knowing the price of everything and value of nothing.

A LELink dongle is what you’re looking for in order to use LeafSpy on an iPhone

Ah Mr Kiltox is it worth bothering? Would I be better in blissful ignorance?

Every penny counts these days as I try to stay afloat whilst the house renovation bonfire smoulders on, for context I spent most market days as a kid hunting veg from under the stalls when it had closed post parents divorce the finances dissolved. It has made me terrified of being that skint as an adult so I do at times obsess about silly spends when they are discretionary, it is a hard habit to break. I get it can grate.

It was healthy when I sold it to @Gruber, no reason to think it won’t be now, though LeafSpy is useful for a number of things.

I have no doubt about that, I absolutely love it and I am sold on the concept.

We will likely buy a longer range one in France next year when we get our 10year cards and we have a bit of certainty.

Took the pooches to the Anderton boat lift today, whilst walking about I spotted this old chap over the other side of the canal.

Made me think how nice something like that would be to pootle about in.

Well some very minor fleet moves. Short lived fz6 out, bicycle with engine in. Now shopping for a commuter bike for the rest of my time as I will be coming back to the uk every 4 weeks or so for a week doing the grind of a commute. The FZ6 was killing my right knee so I need something more upright/leg friendly. Have popped a want ad up.

Thats about it work/commute/dentists and knackered house have sapped all of my go. Yawn.

Yikes leaf MOT ran out at the end of March! Try to get it booked in tomorrow I hope so fingers crossed it just passes.

In other news I may have found another townmate

Leaf passed today, advisory for front tyres so a pair fitted.

Great stuff.

Did a few days commute in the 996, lovely thing to do miles in but everyone drives up my arse for some reason. Maybe I am going too slow?

Back in France and down to one vehicle which is giving me the fear. Berlingo has its CT tomorrow and it is whilst I was panic searching for the CG that I would just check the bulbs etc again just on case and clean the glass.

Anyway doing a lock to lock I heard a metallic clinky bongy sound on the column?? Wtf why did that decide to start now.

Great 11pm so nowt I can do now. Will investigate in the light tomorrow and see if something is dangling behind the dash?

Last test the advisiory was rear pads a bit thin and they were done after the test and are still meaty as were the tyres as although not advised they were getting thin and very aged. We have done 12k in it in 2 years so nothing at all other than I stripped the brakes and cleaned up, rotated tyres and the usual fluids and filters. Brake fluid is due this year too but can wait until we ho back to the uk or not if it sells.

I think we are going car shopping if it passes as we fancy something either bigger and with 6+ seats or a vivaro/vito/t4 sized minibus that we can pull the seats out of. Means we can move more shite between countries without pulling a trailer all the time.

Any advice welcome on both and other thoughts (would love another multipla but they’re all dead now) , our budget wouldn’t be top level so up to €10k which over here buys not much. I would rather a bigger diesel this time even though the petrol berlingo has done a great job it just revs too high and I find it a bit uncomfortable after 2-3 hours.

You know we are going to end up with a dacia estate of some description I just want something more comfortable.

I’d get a Vito with the 2.1 derv lump in auto form, they are a fantastic van, if you get the posh one you get decent kit with it too.

mother has a Logan estate and it’s incredibly practical but it’s noisy at speed, a bit slow, the seats aren’t great and it’s a bit basic inside.

Very happy with my Vito and have done several UK>NL runs including in one hit in decent comfort with no issues.

Can you import from Germany, they seem to be relatively cheap there?

One recommendation is to try and get one with all single captains chairs in the back, the doubles of the 2+1 seats are INCREDIBLY FUCKING HEAVY to lump in and out of the van.

Import is possible just like all French admin a complete ballache. Will have a rummage all the same.

I am a mobile.de regular having started with the old hymer shopping.

Bastard berlingo failed on a rear wheel bearing being noisy so that was a pain. Currently browsing amazon for one, I think I will get the full stub but obviously no torque wrench here etc per the norm.

Posted

I doubt it's super sensitive to the torque as long as it's done up FT, it's a 32 or 34mm socket with a massive bar that you'll need. And probably a puller or grinder to get the old one off.

Yeah I watched a vid of a guy doing it on one, the rear is disc on this one and her just undid the nut and off it came so hoping not to need a puller as per my usual MO I have left such things in the UK. I keep meaning to buy a set of that sort of stuff for over here but it being boot sale season I may drop lucky if I get stuck or the Amazon prime hire club will do.

Probably just going to buy a pair of discs and pads with the bearings and rings on and do both sides and forget about it for a bit. Its a couple of hundred € which is dwarfed by the full test fee on the CT here at 80€ a pop. We did get 2 months to come back which is nice.

I pulled it apart just to make sure it wasn’t a dragging calliper in the back and then remembered once in bits I did the sliders last year so it was so easy to pull apart having been cleaned and copper greased. Don’t you just love it when that guy gets in before you.

Sent a speculative email to the duoanes also about what the import duties on a 10k car would be from germany as strictly it should just be the reg fee. Watch this space.
