They should remake this, but not turn it into watered-down, featherbedded version. Actually, they shouldn't remake it.

Quite. And I'm a Citroen man.

What amazes me is that it was made up till as late as 1981...

Nice! The Mk1 did have the perkies, the early Mk2 had Yorks, then went on to the DI.

Fred, a question. Why did the mk1 diesels have the extended nose - was the engine simply too large for the standard panels?

:?:

EDIT: Cancel that - I've just read the blog. Extended nose required to clear the porky Perkie! As you were...

Great reading there - it's amazing how amateurish marketing and ad people were back in those days.

I'm not sure - more efficient engine and 'box + PAS (FFS!) and it would get my vote! They handle quite well (OK they don't go fast enough to really 'know' but the wheel at a corner, independent susp and very low floor makes for a great van. I briefly worked on these and found that they were among the easiest vehicles to work on.

That site is ace, I have won a couple of their "competitions" on there... prizes are suitably shite, for one I recieved an out-of-date Lada calendar. WINNAR.

The engine bay was designed for the Essex V4....any other motor is a tight squeeze, even the V6. Ford offered the 3-litre as an option (as fitted to the Jennings Roadranger coachbuilt camper) and even that needed the diesel front end. Ford fitted the 1600 Crossflow in later Mk1 Trannies with the stock panelwork, and a mate of mine had one with a Pinto in it but it was a VERY tight squeeze.
