This. Passengers always say shit like 'You must see some sights and get some roasters. Bet you have some great stories to tell driver' and I always think, no, most days pass without any drama. Very few stories to tell really

Plenty. Mainly from the city centre though. I tend to work outwith the centre though. City centre to Glasgow Airport is £35, and £5 of that goes towards getting out of the drop off zone. Bastards. That £30 quid can be earned easily with 2 or 3 hires from the shopping centre. It all works out the same, so airport hires only really work for us if we land on a booking coming back into the city. Glasgow Airport is outwith our licencing authority so we have an agreement that once we drop off we are allowed to sit for 5 mins before heading back empty

LTI TX1, 2 and 4

LEVC Txe

Ford Procab (not voyager or the likes)

Peugeot E7 (allied vehicles)

Mercedes Vito M8 (allied vehicles)

There were also a few Fiat versions of the E7 a good few years ago

Apart from the above, none

Theres not much to choose from. Our council insist on side loading wheelchair access, probably in case of rear end shunts or the like. Councils outwith the area allow Berlingos and the like to be used as taxis. It doesn't bother me though, i prefer to have a proper cab with a bandit screen to keep the great unwashed away from me 🤣

Totally agree with @chancer on Glasgow being on it's arse; admittedly I'm on the buses, but my last shift before heading back to London was a Saturday backshift on the X19 (Govan - Easterhouse via the City) and my four round trips brought in a cash total of... £17.

The Friday backshift the night before was 3pm-1am on the X25 (Cumbernauld - City express). £40.10.

 

 

Disagree on bandit screens on my side anyway, on a bus they're more hassle than good; even Easterhouse at 11pm I drive with mine open.

Apologies for the thread bump, just followed a link here from another thread and found it quite interesting*

*in my nerdy AS way!

@warren t claim you mentioned having a blue TX, that wasnt perchance the one with flouro yellow hubcabs was it? Used to see it every day knocking around the uni and Kensington areas back when I was a student there.! I'm assuming you no longer have a TX, as Horriblemercedes mentioned you have an MG now that he was interested in perving at 😂 (and was subsequently gutted about us going out in a group of 5 in Liverpool this weekend rather than 4 or less!)

Right, to bring this up to date. Cab has just continued to plod on doing its duty. Nothing really to report, it failed to start a couple of times but ive worked out that priming the diesel filter on a cold morning makes starting a bit easier. No issues when doing this. Apart from that it had a morning in the garage to have the EGR pipe replaced as it was leaking diesel fumes into the cab. 

So, in just over 3 months it really hasnt put a foot wrong. Ive covered around 4.5k miles in that time. 

I had intended moving it on at the beginning of April when my other work starts up, but i may just keep it and work it as and when required until May31st when the dreaded LEZ is enforced

All the Liverpool cabs with yellow wheels used to belong to a fleet owner called Atkinson's who sold up a few years ago.

You've either been lucky or not working hard enough!

I have been working, generally out there 7 days a week. Maybe not working hard, but im out there all the same! On a usual shift i cover about 70-80 miles. It really has been a great cab. And has less issues than the newer ones that have been modified to comply with Euro6 legislation. Progress? Dont think so

Ahhh I see, that makes sense as to why I kept seeing the "same" cab so often! 😂

I'm going to guess that all the EU6 ones suffer similar DPF/Oil Dilution/Adblue related shite issues of any modern diesel doing stop-start urban journeys.

I did notice that even in 2017-18 ish, there were still several Mk2 and Mk3 V8 Lexus LS's floating in Liverpool around as minicabs, all running on LPG. Now there's a clean-air solution I could get behind!  Sadly I think they've all finally rusted away or aged out now.

Issues are mainly with the converted ones using the cybrand exhaust with adblue. Many cabs are running around with the fuse pulled and reverted back to Euro 5 cos nobody up here knows how to fix it. They are all being converted in Chester. I know there are supply issues with some parts for the later Euro 6 cabs with 2.8 engine.

The LPG converted ones mainly have issues with actually finding somewhere that has LPG to sell! Not great when everywhere has run out and the petrol tank only holds a gallon for emergencies!

Meanwhile, my old shitbox just plods on without a hiccup.

Holy thread resurrection.....the TX4 finished its duties with me early on in April as the LEZ restrictions loomed closer. I went back to my garden maintenance business which keeps me busy through the better months. Cab found a reprieve when one of the conversion specialists went bust, council allowed an extension to its license, and it carried on plying it's trade with a new owner. I spoke to him last week and it still never broke down or gave any grief. Good old Coventry built cab. 

Garden work has now closed for the season and I am just about to venture into a new era with a new cab. Collection mission starts 7am......

Not a chance...64 mile range on a new battery. I'm going for something cheaper, far more likely to go wrong, but much easier to fix. Backbone of Britain an all that
