garethj Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I went there with the family last Sunday and it’s a good day out if you ignore the cost, which would buy most of Torsten’s fleet and new tyres for all of Mr Bickle’s cars. An important area for shite spotting are the Lego cities where everything exists in a wonderfully twee world, but look at the cars! I didn’t have my camera so these are courtesy of Google Volvo and caravan Espace, they've got a plastic bodyshell you know? VW Beetle, not one of the easiest builds in Lego Land Rover 109, one of the easiest builds in Lego Renault Alpine
lovejoy Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 That Espace is brilliant! You're pulling my Lego, do people really pay wads of munny to see this??
garethj Posted April 28, 2010 Author Posted April 28, 2010 That Espace is brilliant! You're pulling my Lego, do people really pay wads of munny to see this??Not really, it's more for the rides, bragging rights to other 7 year olds etc. The lego city is one small part of it, the chav spotting for example is a much bigger part, and you don't have to queue
RedSparrow Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Legoland is ace! I would go again if I had an excuse.I was a bit dissapointed that they didn't use the scale of buildings that you buy in the shops. I am odd like that.
barrett Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I loved legoland when I went (aged about 9), I really like model villages and stuff like that, mainly because they haven't been updated since the 70s and all the cars where old bilge. I remember a couple of 3-wheeled Reliants at legoland which particularly piqued my interest.Anyone got any model village photos? I remember going to quite a few in my childhood but i've no idea where they were (Cornwall? Isle of White?)
Albert Ross Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 No pictures, but Bekonscot is a good old fashioned villasge to go look at. I went there in the 80s in my Super Minx.... I wonder if it still exists? (Not the Hillman, the village)
brammy777 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I went to Legoland twice when I lived in Slough, I loved it, but as soon as you go to other theme parks its obvious how tame the rides are. They used to have a Metro which had crashed into a pole in the lego London. I also went to a model village, also near(ish) Slough, any idea what that one is? It was pretty good, god knows how long it took to make.
brammy777 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Ah thought that rang a bell! It must be 11 years since I went there, blimey! Its still open, apparently its the oldest one in the world. If Im correct the shop there is an old railway carriage.
seth Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I've got some photos I took at Beckonscott a couple of years ago. I'll dig 'em out later. My mum took Ickle_Seth again a few weeks ago.
barrett Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 this is cool, I stayed in this place when I was in vegas
Vin Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 As a kid I was a member of the 'Lego Club' and desperately wanted to go to Legoland, but it was in Denmark. So I couldn't So here we go. Kids today don't know they're born. They've never had it so good, ETC ETC ETCI once went to a model village though. It was at Babacombe I think. Torquay summer holiday 1983....
reallyloud Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I have to say I went a few years ago almost specifically to see the lego world - the detailing is excellent - each continent has the right cars, correct style of buildings etc. I got in very cheapily, which is just as well because all it is a rather piss poor theme park.
Volksy Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I was there last week, and every other theme park and Model Village/Attraction (in the loosest sense of the word) in the south of England.Part of a reccy to do with my Job. Legoland quite impressed, the model world is excellent, sadly my collegue was suffering from food poisoning at the time, so most of the visit was spent waiting outside the various loo's around the site Got a guided tour of Poultens park, and got to see all the workings/grimy bits of the theme park, really interesting tour!
Mr Lobster Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I quite like this sort of thing - something appealing about it! Quite fancy going to this place - www.franceminiature.fr
Slaighty Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 took my 2 boys to legoland last year. I was fascinated by the model village but the brats weren't interested at all, just wanted to go on the rides. With food and drink and a visit to the gift shop plus petrol to get there from brum it was a £200 day out !!
seth Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Here's some Bekonscot photos http://www.bekonscot.co.uk/
barrett Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 most of the cars there look like Bburago ones, I've got the Lancia and had the SS100, both in similar states of repair. I wonder if the plastic bits have just rotted away over the years?
Spottedlaurel Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 We went last year on the way back from Somerset. Fortunately my two did like the model towns/cities. CX estate?, 2CV, Trabant, Volvo, and Mercedes van?
Lord Sterling Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Those model villages remind me of Mini Europe in Brussles: This something that has contributed to me collecting model cars. They used a lot of 1/24 and 1/43 Schbak/Bburago models.
Mash Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I like that little 1930s airfield. One I picked up leaflets for is the Madurodam in Holland which looks pretty detailed. It's all to a constant 1/25 scale apparently. http://www.madurodam.nl/?lang=1
