When the injector seals were knackered on my Td5 I’d got a mega squealing noise from the in tank pump when priming, don’t know if you have anything like that?

Nope it’s pretty quiet now there’s a new pump on board. By the time I’ve finished the injector seals there won’t be much left to change other than the injectors themselves and the high pressure pump!

Progress update!

because changing the broken non return valve didn’t cure my starting issue, the next job is injector seals.

all 5 copper washers and seals replaced. A bit of a faff cleaning the injector holes out but it’s all done now. Tbh they weren’t that dirty.

still, they needed a good clean.

BUT. We have some bad news. The injector rockers are toast on cylinders 2 and 3.

not good. And the cam is a little worn on 2.

Yeah. NOT good, seeing as the camshaft is a head off job to replace. I don’t think I’ll be changing that cam, not at 200k. It can have a new rocker shaft and I’ll risk it for a biscuit.

while I’ve got the fan off, it can have a new belt!

It’s running and driving again, but we will see over the next few days if the starting issue is cured.

TD5. Yuck.

If only they'd done that bit more development, it could have been amazing.

How old is the belt? They seem to last the entire 200k, or fail within 1k IME

No idea. It was on when I got it. New one came in a box of spares with the car . It’s done nearly 200k but I highly doubt it’s the original. It has had a cylinder head around 150k but my guess is they reused the cam and rockers etc.

Brilliant noise though. Reminds me of my old T4 2.5 work van. That made a lovely warble as well.

I've never known a mode of transport make so much noise without much forward motion! 😁

I did buy a rocker cover gasket to do ours before the Mot as it's leaking a bi5 but never got around to it 😁

I wonder if it's going to look like that when I do get around to it!

It's the brilliant*idea of putting the injector loom under the rocker cover that gets me 🙄

Mine had a turbo. So it could just about get out of its own way 🤣

The new one I fitted earlier in the saga has already started to deteriorate

Should I wrap this up and leave it under the Christmas tree in the garden for the disco to unwrap on Xmas morning?

Heavy duty torque converter?

Clutch ;-)

Better to buy parts from Ashcroft, and fit them yourself, than have them fit stuff!

Ask me how I know...🥺

Look mum I won something! 🤣

Good work, supposed to make a decent difference to the drive. Fellas on the D2 forum were playing with V8 transmission ECU’s too at one point but think there were some odd intermittent issues?

Yes I’ve heard those that fit the v8 converter love it and it’s a night and day change. Got the adapter kit too. Just need my mate to help fit it now.

I’d convinced myself this one was an auto?

I meant he's going to convert it to manual ? ;-)

He's blown the gaff now - you win the prize - he's not saying what it is yet though. Maybe .... it could be ..... ?

He got it right! V8 torque converter upgrade. Should lower the slip by 3-400rpm bringing the td5 into a better driving range. Also noted improvement on fuel economy and a quieter drive 🤣

Haha. Common fault. Mine leaked so I paid a guy to fix it and he did a fantastic job. Well worth the £££ 💪😅

Right then!

time to throw more parts at it.

second hand rocker shaft. I was amazed at how black and coked up the replacement was in comparison to the original one I’ve taken off. You could say that this engine has been well looked after as the top end isn’t dirty at all! Apparently these rollers on the rocker shaft can seize up and cause damage, but they weren’t. Is it possible that they once were stuck but freed themselves off? I dunno.

there is a slight difference in design, but it makes no difference to running at all.

that’s a wrap. I’m officially putting back into service, UNTIL NEXT TIME!
