I keep hearing about this summer meet? When and where is it? It sounds like it would make a good deadline to aim for!

I could be very wrong here .. but was there not a thread stickied about it ?I can't seem to find it.And i agree that a dead-set date would be a nice thing to aim for

I am aware of that site but Ive recently become a member of the 924 owners club. £15 but I get loads of tech advice and a 10% discount at GSF. I should get my money back in no time.

I could be interested, I already have a full complement of alloys but I spose I could use another incase one drops off and rolls away on the way to the MOT center. Needs to be cheap though, as im a stingy bastard.I may have some Volvo swappable crap you may be interested in. Ill have to have a dig.Im in my living room at home, where are you?

The alloy (wiv centre cap) is in Stockport (bare YO). Tenner sound alright? Where be you located anyway, I'm making a phat trip down to Derby and then hopefully over to Stoke to get mein swivel chair base, you anywhere near there? If you are around I can lob it in the boot of the surprisingly - running - properly C4 and drop it off. Or something.

Im in Tunstall, which is in Stoke-on-Trent, near the top. Whan ya making the trip?

Enjoying this thread immensely. Has to be said there'd be a lot of happy faces if you turn up in this at a summer meet this year!I can also see this turning into something of a 'bike' on here!My Maz is undoubtedly the result of several members' work.....Keep the pics rollin mate!

Even better if CIH could make it to a meet too with the one he's just won off ebay so they could be like twins 8) +1 for the pics!Mark.

Sorry no pics as Im cant be bothered to upload them just yet. This afternoon was spent trying to coax the old Porka into life and using a wet-vac to beautify the interior. I failed in the first instance as despite bridging out the fuel pump relay the pump simply wouldnt work. After removing the offending pump (and emptying 2 gallons of stale fuel over myself and the drive  ) I found it was badly corroded and seized solid, A pair of jumpleads and a battery confirmed it.I had a bit more luck with the interior, the vac kindly lend to me by Cavette doing a sterling job. The whole inside looks and smells much better but may need another course of treatment to get the best effect. The insect life inside didnt seem to appreciate my efforts however CU L8R EARWIGZ.I removed and cleaned the seats and found my first bodge. The outer front drvers seat mounting and lost its captive nut and had been "fixed" by welding the seat runner to the floor. A hammer and chisel got the seat out but the mounting will need a welded repair. Under the seats I found £1.70 in loose change and a couple of old Schoolbooks belonging to the P/O's daughter, who is now 34. Its all nice and clean of schoolbooks/change/terbor mints underthere now.Pics to follow.

My pump failed if you let it run out, it gets air in, and you can hear the airlock if you turn the key, hissing about. The pump actually failed a day after I sold it. :D I think there are two, one outside inthe wheel arch and one in the tank???

I spent this afternoon cutting the paintwork back using a polishing mop and some cutting compound. Wow! what a difference! The main problem with the paint seemed to be dust that had somehow etched itself into the paint and was impossible to remove with a normal wash and wax. The mop cut through it instantly and revealed lovely thick glossy paint underneath. Unfortunately it got dark before I finished but under halogen spotlights the Porsche looked dazzling. Im very pleased! No doubt that in the daylight there will be bits ive missed but now ive got the hang of the mop they should be easy to sort. I ran out of time to apply wax to seal the paint and shine it up but ill do it sometime tomorrow. Cant wait! Many thanks to Mr B for lending the mop to me. Its enabled me to connect to the Porsche on a sexual level.Oops. nearly forgot. I recieved a secondhand high pressure fuel pump in the post yesterday thanks to Greengartside. Fingers crossed this will enable the engine to run!

mine had been in storage for most of the 90s and the roof seems to have etched too.

Sounds like a job for clay.. I did the black bits on the Rover and it shines up pretty bloody well.

Posted

Ive never used clay, but I hear its really good. Id love to give it a go but bear in mind, where talking SHITE here.Would playdough suffice?

Posted

No hes not... Hes terracotta!! (isnt he??)

Clay is great stuff, I would defo reccommend it for what you're doing, but its disappointingly expensive when used on old neglected shite. I have struggled to find it for much less than a tenner a bar, and if youre using it on something thats not been polished for 20 years, the bar will be pretty much fooked by the time you've done the whole car. When you've done it, another mop session will probably be in order. If youre friendly with that Coxy geezer he might be able to sell you a bar cheap or point you in the right direction?

Jeepers, I've just realised I've got a tub of clay somewhere I was given as a freebie by the C&SC boys when I worked at Haymarket. I've never tried it!!! I think it's a blue tub with a green lid - I must try and find it!This Porka story is fantastic. Please make sure you add more pics soon :)Mark.

Good idea R.E Coxy, he really is a detailing ubermeister and a mine of cosmetic care advice. I havent been in touch with him for a few months but im sure he'l beable to point me in the right direction. In the mean time I may just polish the Stuttgart Stuka up as best I can with what I have. Does anyone have an idea on what I can use to seal/shine the paint? Ive got a bottle of SIMONIZ MAX-WAX which ive used previously and seems to give a good shine, but I havent used it on freshly cut paintwork.Im going to take some pics later on today and stick them up. With the nice clean interior and a nice shiny exterior it should hopefully look like it belongs on the road, and not as an extra in "The mummy returns III" or something.

I've achieved good results simply with Autoglym Super Resin Polish followed by Extra Gloss Protection. The paintwork on my GSA is 3-4 years old now and I find with this combination I don't have to wash the car for ages - it seems to repel dirt for longer. I've also used Mer on the BX to good effect.Mark.

Tadaa...

Ok, to be fair it doesnt look that different in the pics but up close its stacks better than it was! Ive found a bottle of Mer super resin polish (or something) which Ill use in place of the simoniz stuff as its posher.

Good work Tim.I have found Meguiars good stuff and they do clay bars too. I think there's four stages (paint cleaner, clay bar, polish, wax) and found the effort well worth it.

Posted

Looking good Tim, what a transformation to when you first got it!I used a clay bar kit on my old man's Mk3 Escort cabriolet, did quite a good job on it, even though I had to go back over it with wax later on - but boy did that shine afterwards! 8)

Humm, looks like a clay bar is the way to go. Ill get it on the road first though and reward the porka with a good clay afterwards. I gave it a good polish with the Mer stuff today but it started raining so couldnt buff it off afterwards. That'l be a job for tomorrow, assuming it doesnt rain. It did look good though ,seeing the water droplets run off the shiny paintwork instead of being absorbed by the oxidisation and filth.I need a new front numberplate though.. wasnt there a thread about a company that manufactures "original" dealer plates in the right font? I cant find it!Hey, Gartside, your parcel is on its way!

Posted

Hmm, I was looking for that website as well that manufactures the old-style plates. There's the guy who does the original selling dealer plates, at www.dealerplates.co.uk - may be worth giving him a try?

Ooooh parcel for moi! Excited much! :D
