AXrescuer Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Saw this beauty in Horsham on Friday. Haven't seen one of these since I were a wee nipper!
barrett Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 nice, perfect condition for a 50s car too.Last year I saw a crusty 6-cyl two-tone Isis driven by an 18 yr old lad one night when i was pretty pissed, had a chat to him and he said it was his dream car and he'd been saving to buy one since he was 15! should've told him about AS really...
AXrescuer Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 I waited for 20 mins to see if the owner turned up but he didn't so I left.
seth Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Excellent. I see the occasional Hindustan around and about but nothing beats a proper old one

Angrydicky Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Lovely old car, looks in the same condition as my A35 as well
hennabm Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Looks like at some point it has been re registered as it is carrying an Inverness number RAS 247.Those and ex Caithness numbers are still issued to pre 63 cars that cannot be given their original identities.

Lankytim Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Is it just me or do old cars instantly lose some of their appeal when you notice they've been plate raped?
seth Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Is it just me or do old cars instantly lose some of their appeal when you notice they've been plate raped?I know what you mean but it wouldn't stop me owning something I wanted.
Angrydicky Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Is it possible that it was originally registered in Inverness.By 1963 Inverness were still issuing numbers in the AS 1234 sequence, as there were so few cars sold there. The DVLA started issueing age related numbers in the sequence AAS-XAS in about 2001ish.
mattblack Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Not fan of plate-rape, but it can sometimes mean a low value car survives that would have been scrapped if the plate wsn't worth anything. My MK1 Sceptre had lost it's original reg, doubt if it would have been put through an MOT if it hadn't been to transfer the number.Oh, and that's a pre-October '56 Oxford, without the 'fluted' bonnet and finned rear wings...
Lankytim Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Ive heard of a few nice classics being bought just to remove the reg plate and then being broken for spares!
fotorabia Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 My ill fated Mk1 Mini van project i bought off Tirree in 93 had been originally OAP???..but got an A plate but didnae bother me cos it was a 1963 anyhoo..Original plates here are called black plates..most folk aint bothered whether theyve lost them or not..cars a car...
Angrydicky Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 My dad's 1960 Morris Minor that we painstakingly restored from a wreck, sold because we needed the money, went on Ebay to a well known numberplate dealer in Dorset. It then turned up on a classic car dealer's website, minus original registration, and for 3x what it went for on Ebay.I can't bear the thought of that cnut throwing those lovely old Hills plates in the bin after I spent 4 hours rubbing them down and painting them - makes me sick
