Seemed to do the job OK. Salad Cream, Ketchup or some toothpaste on a cloth. They are all abrasives.Don't put Brasso on your salad though.....

Fuck me vicar, that looks a million times better now. Nice work Mr S.

Aye, she's buffed up a treat. The sun shining does help on the photos mind.....Right, I'm gonna try some salad cream on the bumprs now. This is going to look/feel particularly strange. Saying that, I think most of my neighbours think I'm a cretin anyway.......

Well, it certainly doesn't seem to have done any harm.......

Thats lookng great. The paint has come up lovely, but as others have said, it has a proper used look, like I remember them. Over-restored concours cars are a bit boring imo!

Well, tin foil is made from aluminium which is somewhat softer than chrome so I suppose shouldn't damage it. I think Brasso is a bit harsh. I've always used a chrome cleaner/polish of some sort but perhaps condiments is where its really at though?Looks spanking Mr Sceptre :D

wow! it looks amazing :D im embarrased to say it never looked that good when i had it  nice work :D

Honestly, crush it into a ball shape and rub away, you'll be very suprised at the end result, even seems to hide some of the rust as well............then slap a coat of polish on to protect....go on try it :D

Looks absolutely cracking, especially after the polishing, which at the same time hasn't taken away any of it's shitey charms!

Had a bit of a scare this morning. I was at my friend's house as she had a load of stuff to take to the tip - an ideal opportunity to use the impressively capacious boot in the Maxi (it really is hugh with the seats folded down). Anyway, I loaded her up & then realised I was really low on fuel & didnt have my wallet on me.Not to worry, I thought, theres some petrol in the canister in the boot, so I decanted this into the car. After about 1/2 a mile I noticed that she was losing power & was smoking increasingly badly. It was getting to the point where I was having to really hammer the throttle to keep her going - meaning more & more smoke. I limped to the tip & made it home, picked up my wallet & put some more petrol in her (ie from the petrol station). After taking her for a drive for a few miles she was thankfully back to normal, except for the fact I could smell petrol really strongly so was still a bit concerned. I then realised that I hadnt closed the boot properly! Anyway, all is now well

It could be that fuel is quite old, I'm not sure how long it'd been in that can sorry.Have you tried any lead replacement stuff in it yet by the way, that should help a bit?

The battery finally died a couple of days ago. Tried the jump leads, but as dead as a Dodo. New battery fitted & PCM 310J back up and running. Will be taking her from Leicester to Retford (North Notts) & back again tomorrow, so looking forward to the drive.:lol: No further updates.

PCM 310M

Being newer won't increase its value.....

It's great to read of another '70s BL motor that's earning its keep, especially when that motor is a very lovely example of one of BL's better ideas.

Castrol valvemaster PLUS is great for these engines, cuts out pinking and makes everything much smoother.

Ah right-oh. I'm currently using lead addivite (can't remember the name) but if the Castrol is particularly recommended then I'll give it a go next time. Cheers.

I've always found Millers VSP to be the best lead additive :)
