Saab windscreen

Would anyone here know the approximate cost of a replacement windscreen for a 1997 Saab 900 cabriolet (looks identical to the 93.

Daughter's boyfriend took a strop and punched her windscreen and smashed it.

He will be paying for it, not the insurance.

Looked on a few sites but can't seem to get an indication of cost from them.

I phoned up Autoglass about the Volvo's windscreen for a laugh. They started off at over £500 but "conveniently" they were able to offer various discounts and got the price down to £300 odd.I phoned my local "man in van" windscreen supplier and he quoted £160 all-in, and he would come out to my house or work and fit it. In the end I got it on insurance for £75.The best thing to do is to send the boyfriend round to a friendly backstreet garage so he can ask who they get to replace windscreens.

No idea but I suspect it won't be cheap. I know thats not much help though....

Thanks Richard.I had estimated at around £5-600 but really that was a WAG having heard similar prices mentioned.Boyfriend wants sending to Timbuktoo. He's a bit of a twat. His car, an ancient Mazda 323 that subscribes to the rat look, unintentionally, is outside my house and has been for over a month with a flat tyre he can't be arsed to fix. Tax ran out last year. He'll be getting done for that before too long no doubt.Laura refuses to get in it and won't let him drive her Saab either. She'd finished work at one o'clock this morning and went to his. He blew up because she hadn't texted him to say she was on her way. I'm surprised she didn't deck him.

My mate is a bit of a SAAB specialist, I'll ask him if he knows what they cost. I can't imagine it'll be far from the price of the Volvo screen, possibly slightly less as the Volvo's has a graduated tint. You'll probably have to do the legwork yourself if you want it to happen. A man who won't change a tyre on his own car isn't likely to put any effort into getting a windscreen for somebody else's.Obviously I don't know your daughter or her boyfriend but it sounds like he needs chucked.

Fully agree with you there. Unfortunately not my decision.I think she's going to the dealers with it and let him suffer the agony of an empty wallet for a while. She's learning to be an embalmer so I imagine he may be a test subject before too long.

The roofless 900s had a different rake to the pillars and screen, so would think it wouldn't be the same as for a normal 900 - must be a rare order.

Wouldn't be at all surprised.Would serve him right if they had to ship it back to Sweden or Finland to fix it :)

A previous owner punched the windscreen on a car I had! TBH, it'll be cheaper and less hassle to replace on insurance, and then get him to pay for it. Say it cost 300 quid or something.

Is this lad going to be able to pay for a new screen? My experience of folk who are dim enough to thump windscreens, is that they are inevitably penniless. so however much it costs, you or your daughter will end up coughing up for it.

I recoken Bo1 could be right, if he's got a shitty Mazda he can't tax then we won't be able to afford to pay £500 for a new screen.I'd go with Station suggestion, It should only be about £75 but tell him you want more, I'm sure it doesn't effect the insurance premium neither.

I thought all insurance policies covered windscreens but i just asked my wife who's an Insurance Clerk and she said they don't, you learn something new everyday.I hope your daughter doesn't take him back, They have a habbit of doing things like that, My Sister in law was the same with her ex, cock. Can you sell the Mazda and try and get a few quid that way?.

It's worth about tuppence and liable for back tax.

She will extract the money from him one way or another. She is not to be messed with and I'm surprised he is still walking around.

Play a few local places off against each other. I did this a couple of years ago with the 405 and got a new screen fitted for about £115 IIRC.I've just been to National Mobile Windscreens as the rubber lower seal on the tailgate of my Avensis has been bodged in the past - they priced up a new 'screen just in case removal of my old one breaks it - retail of £595 + VAT  but they quoted me £177 + VAT. Fingers crossed they don't break it...

Posted

How does that work? You ask a windscreen expert to replace the seal, to avoid your ow hamfistedness. Surely if they break it, when it should not get broken, it's their problem. £0.

I think it would stay bodged if that is the case.

Being a soft top saab it will be £££ as they all add to the strength. I know C900 rear screens are now NLA.

She hasn't said but she is likely to break his face if he turns awkward. She just got a quote from the SAAB dealer here. £1,000 cash or £700 if it is paid for with a credit card.I think she spoke to the flim-flam man :?: An Autoglass man is coming to see it on Tuesday with a provisional price of £200 for the glass + and additional £200 for the metal frame if that needs doing.

Well, sort of Generic Autoglass. There is an actual Autoglass man comes to a neighbours, married to my neighbour's granddaughter, could well be him.

Haven't actually seen the Autoglass adds so wouldn't recognise Gavin although I have heard of him (through Autoshite :) )

Hard to see the cracks due to the reflections, too lazy to get the keys.

Can you kill that huge image please Tayne and substitute a link, or I can bung a thumbnail image in?

Well, she had it fixed by "Gavin" or one of his clones, a bit nervous and we had to shift the Saab round the back as his ex wife's parents are neighbours and don't look kindly upon him, he thought he may need a new windscreen himself if he was spotted.Laura paid £220 for the job and received an invoice for £300 to present to the now ex-boyfriend who was relieved not to have to fork out £700~1,000 at the Saab dealer. He's getting the Mazda dragged away today, supposedly.
