mid diesel Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I’m posting this for a friend of mine. He wishes to see this car go to a good home, to someone who will appreciate its rarity and condition. The car has been in his family from new but needs a new home now. Looks like potentially an easy restoration to me – of a very rare and attractive car. Here are the details from the owner….. • Peugeot 204 Saloon. 1974. Right hand drive. • One of possibly only two surviving rhd 204 saloons in the UK - I was the Club Peugeot UK 204 registrar and I don't know of any other survivors here at present. In fact I don't think CPUK even has a 204 register any more - this car is almost unique in the UK, but there are lots of spares in France and it would be worth joining the (excellent) French 204 club. • One family owned from new (Dad and me). 140k miles approx. • No tax or MOT at present. Needs front brakes (calipers seized) and petrol tank is off (but present) due to a problem picking fuel from the tank. • Engine/gearbox good. No typical 204/304 cam rattle. • Jumps out of reverse occasionally (due to worn selector prong - a common 204 fault). Absolutely no filler or fibreglass. Had four new wings and doorskins and front valence a few years ago. New rear door slam panels fitted. • Comes with a lot of spares and factory workshop manual. • She was Ziebart rust proofed when new and has been soused in engine oil and Waxoyl periodically since. A pretty straightforward restoration project for someone, but she will need some love. She needs to be kept under cover - these cars can rot like the clappers if allowed to do so. If anyone is interested in taking this on – I will put you in contact with the owner – the car is located in Herefordshire. Please ask any questions on here or via pm – I will get the answers back asap. Pictures....
Rusty Pelican Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Lovely looking car and i too hope it finds a good home , number plate would have to go though wether its original or not
wuvvum Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Wow, I'd love a go on that. Seats look exactly the same as the ones in my 304, which were amazingly comfortable. It's probably a pointless question as I don't have anything with a towbar at the moment, but any ideas on price?
mid diesel Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 A little more info. from the owner..... I should have added that she was last used on the road in 1994, but has been stored under cover until the last couple of years, when she's been sheeted up on concrete with an air gap around her, so she's not sweated. The exhaust is also shot, as one would expect, from disuse.

boobydoo Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Another car that was once a common sight but now almost extinct.Absolutely lovely. Hope it finds a good home.

Guest Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 That's superb, look at the huge front grille!Considering the car, the plate could be seen as an ironic joke.
MrRegieRitmo Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 As it's a 204 themed plate I'm guessing it's not original, although correct for the year. Although saying that my brother in law had a '99 306 with the plate V306 ELH which was the plate it came with. Must have been one of the last 204s?Edit: I predict Carlo will have the major horn for this!

boobydoo Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Must have been one of the last 204s?I just happened to have an October 1976 Autocar to hand and the 204 was still listed in the New Car section then which would make it R reg.I remember a neighbour having one on an N plate back in the late 70s. They had a black plastic grille by this stage and all seemed to be in a turquoisey blue colour. Comme ci!!!http://www.motorbase.com/uploads/2006/0 ... ot_204.jpg
dieselnutjob Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 why is it not in the for sale page of the CPUK website?
mid diesel Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 why is it not in the for sale page of the CPUK website?I suspect it will be soon ?
chaseracer Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I know this car well, as I went to school with the owner! Haven't seen him for far too long, but Hello Oliver if you're reading this I went to the Norwich Union Classic run at Silverstone in the 204 in 1988 - it's a lovely little thing, and I hope someone treasures it. If I had the room...
mid diesel Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 why is it not in the for sale page of the CPUK website?I suspect it will be soon ?update -- to prevent it being broken for parts.
VWPowered Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 hope its doesnt get broken up be a real shame that
HillmanImp Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 why is it not in the for sale page of the CPUK website?I suspect it will be soon ?update -- to prevent it being broken for parts.Parts for what. Does it share parts with other cars or is this a ransom job? Buy it or it dies....
dieselnutjob Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 if that was a Ford or Vauxhall whatnot people would be all over it.And the one thing that makes old French cars such a pain in the arse is rust, and it hasn't got any!I don't understand why no one wants it.
barrett Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I would love to know the price. I also hope that it's hugely expensive so I dont accidentally try and buy it.

Does it share parts with other cars or is this a ransom job? Buy it or it dies....Not at - - this is not some sort of ransom job - far from it - from the owner - I've not offered her through CPUK as there are a number of spares specialists there who will want to break her for 304 cabrio' bits.
mid diesel Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 No mysteries on price people... It is not my car - so I have no idea what it's worth The owner is looking for the car to go to a good home - no more, no less This is not some ridiculous ransom job. I have pm'd the owner's email address to the two people who asked about price. Cheers

Must have been one of the last 204s?Edit: I predict Carlo will have the major horn for this! You're right Regie, I do. Unfortunately I can't really drive manuals anymore, and having had two 204 Coupes and a convertible it's almost like I've 'done' the 204 thing. That's not to say they're not lovely little cars, with one of the best grille/headlight combinations of the sixties. I also know the owner of this one and couldn't work out initially whether Oliver was the poster or friend of the poster! Shame it's got to go as there probably aren't very many 204 lovers prepared to give her the care and attention she needs. Funnily enough there is an immaculate 204 saloon with very low mileage very near me, a 1968 model.
MrRegieRitmo Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I passed a dark green 304 saloon in a lay-by this week with two guys stood around it looking like they were doing a deal on it - wish I could have got a picture!
