I spent £1700.00 just in parts on getting this one fully safe, MOT’d and being a good fun drive. 
 

i sold it as white with orange stripes,,new guy went Stranger Things on it and made money from hiring it out. 
 

last time it sold iirc for£8800.00 and has been used on BBC telly in the programme Sandman. Minus the lights etc.

Your garage and workshop are enviable too!  Are there two buildings arranged in an L shape, or is one a carport adjacent to the original garage?  You've got a lot of useful floor area in a fairly compact space, by the looks of things.

Sadly, that combo has gone as I managed to set my crotch alight once too many, the hoody has survived about 3 years, mainly due to not being a pure nylon fabric, I think.

I would build is differently the next time, but I like what I managed to get done.

 

I would also paint the body before final assembly.  Snot green or some equally lurid colour. 

 

And not pictured is things like gusseting the whole chassis.

 

 I wanted it to be ready for a potential silly motor etc.

 

I have an 1800 and some turbo bits a mate gave me.

 

So I may randomly sell it for what it owes me, one day and start all over again.

 I bought the house with the garage already there in 2010 but the drive was cracked up concrete, with a working water feature where the Rezin Rockit is now parked. Garage is about 29x29 inner measurement. I removed the smaller door to the right years ago and fitted a free door and frame. Everything was alarmed etc by the previous owners who was an electronic savant. 
 

I always wanted a carport for more dry and outside work.

 

So during Covid, I was not commuting 3 hrs a day or more.

 

 I did a load of planning, more labour, and did all the groundwork, the foundations are under the paving, with the posts all bolted into the floor on 0ne Cubic Meter of concrete each, and some are bolted to the garage.

 

 I got a guy to come measure up and formalise the sizes etc that I wanted.

 

He made up everything off site and I took a days leave to help raise it, took about 5 hours to do the frame. 
 

Crazy, I know. But it all fitted and bolted together perfectly.

 

I then had to wait longer than planned for the roof sheeting that was custom cut to size and delivered as well, to be delivered, due to Covid slowing things down.

 

Lots of paint, preparation and since then, modification has gone on to creat a dry open space.

Shed in the corner is a woodwork shed, also fully electrified with its own circuit, which I put up about 11 years ago. 
 

I did not mention on the previous pics that I moved the garden retaining wall (this is a purpose built mound and self contained wild garden) back by 500mm just to get the right corner and a bit more space.

Also added a compressor room to the side of the woodwork shed. 
 

finally ready for the steels to be fitted.

My neighbour Micky and mate Craig helped one day as well, allowing me to get the timbers all fitted to the steels.

That's incredible!  I got the impression it was clever from the original photos, but didn't realize it was that clever.  Thank you for providing such detailed photos and shows that you really have got a quart in a pint pot.  Useful information for those considering improvements on their own plots, too.

I guess I had to plan and then plan my plans in order to get the pieces to fit.

I also have a complete, (disposed of, due to vandalism/theft) truck curtainside that hooks into hooks on the front bearer of the roof, thus closing the front in if needed. 
 

I am a big “recycler” as in, I am tight and always happy to collect “free cash” so the build was a lot less than if I just called in a builder to do the job. 
 

A pallet and half of breeze blocks became building materials for a friend and I used a few to carve ornaments from.

Being a two Ford kitcar (Cortina and Escort parts used) and then fixing a load of weak spots, flaws and improving safety, plus putting an MX5 in there, was likened by a friend to grafting an elephants head onto a giraffe.

 

And in restrospect, I should maybe have started by just grooming a giraffe or doing a head transplant from one Giraffe to another. 
 

No regrets though, except a few design changes, should I do it again.

The front crossmember is 85mm or under 3” off the ground, as is the exhaust as well. 
 

Meaning the “wild” for this will be fast A&B roads. 
 

You can’t quite see how low it is there, but that join is also 3” off the ground, unfortunately. 
Had I raised the engine by 30mm and set it back by 30mm it would have been better, but hey…… first time doing this, working blindly.

 

 

 

And a clip of the gusseting I did on the whole chassis, every possible movement or twisting point.

Along with the complete polybushing of the suspension it should be reasonably decent. 
 

 

 

And final testing of all the switchgear, lights etc before stripping, to ensure it all worked.

 

You can see how low mileage this car was, at 68k miles, but rotten as a pear. 
 

And minus the catalytic converter, hence the £400.00 delivered and scrap removed price.

Great work Grizz. It's funny how when reading about the evolution of your garage spaces that it all seems so familiar. I used to frequent RR a fair bit at the time and I always enjoyed reading your escapades on there. Great to see you active here now too.

I left this site years ago, for no reason iirc, just stopped coming. 
Then someone tagged me on RR’s and I came to look, and started coming again.
When the redundancy loomed, I saw some shite on here, and bought a Micra  on here for the ULEZ exemption and to drive till I got a company car or whatever again.  The Micra was £40.00 but probably ended up nearer £500.00 fully MOT’d

 

The one reason I am still on RR’s along with a few others, is that the system allows me to edit, copy and paste indefinitely from there. 
What I hate is ……. Fuck, let me stop before I get banned.

There are loads of new parts, just needs assembly and paint.

Nice, fast work as well; I'd be fitting taller tyres than that but life would be boring if we all liked the same things. Are you slinging chainblocks etc off your carport frame or do you just like things a bit too strong? I now need to build a carport.
