Truly fascinated with your progress on this Rian Thank you Dom Much appreciated. I often think about how my mum and dad would have looked at and seen the stuff I attempt. I am good friends with my ex wife, and she recently commented she loved the way my head worked. Referring to trying out new things. I also tend to share my failures and hope it helps others avoid them. Yesterday and today, this morning included, this is all I have managed. Free handing borders. There’s a few panels to be made up still. But the car is not talking to me yet. Inbetween the trunk and this there is a 4X cockup which is currently fixed but will be changed again……. Rustybullethole Posted March 27 Posted March 27 The masking alone looks freaking cool. Really looking forward to seeing the finished paint in all its glory. grizz and eddyramrod 1 1
93fxdl Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Have you given this project a name? Might help to focus thoughts and ideas No matter how far you get through something, if you're not quite happy with it, going back and starting again is much better in the long run than letting it go and then constantly be niggling you My son has just put final coats on his katana tank, not happy, so all getting rubbed back down again Onwards and upwards Ttfn Glenn grizz 1

Has it got a name?? Yes it does. Find it. Go ! .
grizz Posted March 28 Author Posted March 28 Paint techniques and stencils. Get creative they say Its going to be fun they say Of course it will. So I thought I’d try some snake skin……. You know, to go with the dragon scales and fish scales…… Finding a stencil was a bit of luck. Testing it on my test panel with different paint types next. Hmmmmmmmmm…… Looks good to me. .
dean36014 Posted March 28 Posted March 28 This is absolutely bloody brilliant. Really admiring your patience and skills to do this. Only question I have is what colour you will change the v5 too🤣. Keep up the good work. grizz 1

Forthcoming episode from Grizzmakes studios Imagine getting bitten in the bum more than once or twice
grizz Posted March 28 Author Posted March 28 Random colour selection question. Been playing with a few colours this morning I have a preference, but I have been wrong before Which colours, or combination of colours do you think would work somewhere on a panel on the bonnet/hood. .
93fxdl Posted March 28 Posted March 28 How about mixing and matching some styles? Stencils over net or lace, endless lines creating the borders to sections, wide line going over and under itself, one style and or colour fading into another, Really am enjoying this journey , even though the low rider style doesn't float my boat the effort and work put into it does Ttfn Glenn grizz 1
grizz Posted March 28 Author Posted March 28 Just watched this video. Remember the £10.00 HVLP spray gun I bought recently? This review has found it to be more than adequate. 93fxdl 1

grizz Posted March 29 Author Posted March 29 I seem to have slipped up and somehow been distracted from part two of the rear painting and resulting outcomes. Sorry. The centre section of the trunk was masked out and if you remember, had HEXAGON written in sharpie across it. So I masked up everything else and brought in the honeycomb stencil and modified it’s outcome slightly. Mate Woodsie and Mickey were here as well, helping, supervising, interfering and ensuring that the outcome was as good as it could be. The stencil was £12.00 on eBay from a seller I would prefer not to use again. It really needs to be bigger, covering the whole stencil, not just as seen. I chose Violet paint for the hexagon because it contrasts strongly enough with the other colours in the mix. Once the unmasked panels appeared, I was super pleased because it exceeded my expectations. Result !! . Surface Rust, dean36014, Dick Cheeseburger and 9 others 12
grizz Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 Remember that saying about three steps and two steps…,? It’s cousin is the triple whammy. Sometimes it hits you. Badly. Still struggling for four days now . Westbay 1
junkyarddog Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Tinted clear-coat with some sparkle added would finish thing off! grizz 1

grizz Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 So the triple whammy. Nothing insurmountable But of course a bloody irritation when it holds much promise. And the repair or recovery has actually absorbed four, that is four corrections and I am still not happt. Remember the snake skin stencil? Looked bloody lovely, except for the fact that the stencil was neither long nor pliable enough. So the results sucked. Then I tried to cover it with a nice aluminium spray…… looked worse. Tried a complete departure from my initial setup and that self destructed, pulling paint away. So I tried something else……. Broad bands of blue and violet along the shoulder of the car, with intermittent diagonal stripes. Three days later, I covered them over with a Porche bone/cream colour. But ran out of paint 80% into the job. Which brings us to this morning……. Went to the paint shop and picked up a fresh £1.20 can of paint and a liter of gold base coat. Came back with the new, different can and managed to cover all of the previous coats with two coats of whatever this is. In the meantime, the weather is not giving up on kicking me repeatedly where it hurts. And of course I keep trying to forge ahead. After the latest paint recovery, and four days of uninspired tyre kicking, I am kinda tired of trying, but I did manage to lay some new designs down this afternoon. Pictures hopefully tell you that not everything is full steam ahead. . delux 1

grizz Posted March 31 Author Posted March 31 So after screwing up the flanks or shoulders repeatedly I just have an off white base waiting for a new design and some creativity. It’s not yet happening. So next stop has to be the hood/bonnet. If you look at the shape of the front end, it is pointed, so I wanted to create something that incorporates that shape. First stop……. Finger art. Research designs. Keep the handbrake on for now. Pics of my thoughts on design. Obviously, opinions? .
93fxdl Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Since the car is curved, I think a curved flowing design would suit it better, possibly even some areas carrying on to adjoining panels , Ttfn Glenn Totally stupid thought endless line onto the bonnet, but run off the bonnet along both sides then across the back so it encircles the whole car? grizz 1
grizz Posted March 31 Author Posted March 31 After some more tyre/tyre kicking I eventually picked up all my rolls of tape. Masking tape, J-tape and 3mm or 1/8” 3M tape, sharpie, retractable mini Stanley, super scissors and a fist full of ambition. Pics will show to process of edge masking, centre finding, then the part that will have 80% or more of you up in arms……. Yup. I don’t expect this to be popular. But My Circus, My Monkeys. After three weeks on this thing, the three step, two step boogie has been committed to muscle memory. Maybe I should also be committed ehhh ? Because of the shape of the front end, I decided to try using a pattern that includes the front grille to right above the front bumper. So we have 1” 1/4” and 1/8” lines masked off that will come back as silver when unmasked. Next step would be to decide how to split the two side panels, keeping in mind the curves on all planes that affect what you would ultimately see. I had isolated the large centre panel and have no clue what it would look like in the end. Pictures. .
Westbay Posted March 31 Posted March 31 for the flanks/shoulders - how about the colours of the rainbow one fading into the next ... 🤔 grizz 1
