Lankytim Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Thought id post this as ive been waiting for it to get reduced after missing it the last time. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165572 Ive heard some good reviews about this super duper took kit. Lifetime guarantee too apparently.
whitevanman Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I've got a few Halford Pro tools and they are very good...and the lifetime Guarentee is for real
Station Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Always bypass Snap On, etc and get Halfords stuff, it's quality. The ratchet spanners are a god send, but they break too easily.
Dead_E23 Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 That looks superb, and it seems they've improved the design since I bought mine - the case now has metal clasps instead of my rather fragile plastic ones and a box of screwdriver bits has appeared. I'm not sure mine includes a screwdriver of any description. Presumably they've removed something to keep to 150 pcs, but I can't think what.
retrogeezer Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 You don't get as many of the ratchet spanners as you used to get....back in 2003 a mate had this set and it had 5 ratchet spanners.Great bits of kit though, made by Draper I believe.
Cavcraft Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Bloody typical, just got junior a tool kit for work. Halford's Pro stuff is fantastic.
ashmicro Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 My ham-fisted mate* just got himself one of these, and asked me to take a look to see if I thought it was any good. I have to say I thought the stuff had a quality feel, and seemed well made. Win, I'd say.*said mate required my help after trying to remove the sump bung from a 1987 Fiesta with a hammer and chisel.
Alexg Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I bought the 120 piece one the other month when it was half price. I wasnt going to be in the market for any at the time but then the pikeys broke in to the garage and robbed me other tools Found then a good quality useful set. But then i'm no tool expert, just like i'm really no mechanic
Lankytim Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 Well, if they dont slip, snap or "flex" then id class them as a quality product.
AnthonyG Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Cheers LT, have now ordered one. Will save using all the 'free with magazine suscription' ones I have been using!
Station Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Don't know how I managed without ratchet spanners, I see people using standard ones and just think what the hell are you doing?!
Minimad5 Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Don't know how I managed without ratchet spanners.Know what you mean !It took me ages using a 3/8 "normal" spanner yesterday
meggersdog Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Bought this set last week,it's the advanced pro and yes the screwdriver bits are a new addition.I've been using mine for the last two days and it's quality.Apparantly the rachets don't have a life-time guaranty but I've had Halfords pro rachets for years and they are still as good as new.If anyone does get this set try and keep the foam as it keeps some of the smaller sockets from jumping out of position.I've got socket sets and spanners galore so didn't really need this one but it's a nice set to keep in the boot and at 100 quid it's a bargain.

Slaighty Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I was bought a Halfords socket set in 86 or 87 and its still going strong. Lost a couple of the original sockets over the years but nothing has broken, and its not had an easy life.
Lankytim Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 Just gone and collected my set after reserving it online. Its very nice and im very happy. I PROMISE to look after it and put all the different sockets back where they came from. There ive said it now. No excuses!

A friend took a ratchet spanner back and that's what he got told.Something about not warranting an item with moving parts so I assumed that meant ratchets aswell.
Dead_E23 Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 If anyone does get this set try and keep the foam as it keeps some of the smaller sockets from jumping out of position. This is more difficult than it sounds - I can't count the number of times I've chased mine up the street on windy days!My tip for preserving ratchet spanners: don't go hanging off them with bits of scaffold pipe! Use the 1/2" ratchet or a breaker bar to crack things that are done up tight. Your knuckles will thank you
