Nothing tremendously exciting tbh. Doesn't seem to be any nice shite around these parts.

Renno is gone now :(

Is that little white thing a Hyundai? When I went to Korea I got carted around in one like that, we went for hundreds of miles every day and I never saw it get petrol

I'd call a beige Renault with AS on the front pretty damn EXCITING!

Well I kind of meant other than the Renault :D gareth, yeah it's a Hyundai. They were Accents here I think? Back in Australia they were Excel's

Heh, I didn't clock the AS on the renault at first....pure class!

Wish I'd taken a closeup picture of the AS, could have made the perfect Autoshite logo :D

Crikey that Renault is tidy....theres a couple of these around my way,one in the same colours, but they are really tatty... :)

Nice spots, I like the starlet! They seem to have completely vanished around here, used to be a common sight.

Nice spots! The Renault Trafic campers still seem reasonably common despite the fact that they appear to rot like bastards.I'd like an old camper but suspect the reality of driving to the south of France or somesuch in a 25 year old Trafic / Transit / Talbot to be not much fun.

Christ, that Trafic appears to mint. Someone is giving it a lot of love.

Nice to see a Mk 5 Escort Cabby. Strange thing is that yesterday I was behind a Aqua Jade (or whatever Ford called that fern green colour) H plate Mk5 Escort Cabriolet EFI in Sketty. It was in mint condition and on Swansea plates - WN. It still had the dealer issue sticker and original plates on it - GO FOR (FORD LOGO) TODAY'S, Days being the local dealer.

It must have looked bizzare! A clean H plate Escort soft top being followed by a clean H Plate Sierra Ghia for the 4 miles into Swansea City. Like some kind of Ford promo video from 1991

You've reminded me of why I took a picture of that Escort Cabrio. Had a plate on it which said (can't remember the name of the dealer but lets say it's Smiths) Smiths Horseless Carriages. I thought that was awesome.

Some shite I spotted in France on a daytrip there last year.

Panhard shite!

Not great pictures of shite but there's a shite engine bay getting some attention from me. Please note 'sporty' two tone beige/metallic green bodywork (the result of a crash actually)

My 504 tended to have a habit of blowing large amounts of oil out of the dipstick hole when run at speed for long periods. Strangely enough my 504 was actually Australian built by RENAULT of all companies.

Didn't Peugeots end up being built by Jaguar-Rover Australia in the end as well? Confusing!Great pictures though.

Not sure. My dads one (a '79) was a couple of years later than mine (a '77) and was built by Peugeot in France.

Yeah they were both very cool. Being from Australia I've not had much exposure to Opel's and to see a car as interesting as that which I never even knew about is always good :)

604s were built by Kia as well

Serious?

Posted

My 604 was originally built for the Aussie market, but it's been here all its life.

Luckily, Mr. Previous Owner had all the springs and shocks replaced with nice shiny UK / Euro spec ones a few years ago.

Renault Oz built Cortina estates for Ford back in the late 70's too. And BL Australia assembled Pug 505s! More a question of keeping capacity/juggling import quota than anything else, I think.

Yup. import taxes played their part too. The cars got breaks on import duties if a certain proportion of the car was locally made. Also created some interesting differences in spec and trim. The 504 my dad owns has a nice white headlining and I can remember what colour the upholstery is (it's always had seat covers on it since he bought it in 1989) but the seats are quite flat and unsuportive but ultra plus and comfy. My 504 was a Renno built one which was built a couple of years later and had tan PVC renno seats (great in hot australian weather!!!!), a tan headlining and door trims.

Brilliant. I knew about things like the Volkswagen-built Avengers, but this is all new infos!
