If you keep looking for problems you're gonna keep finding 'em... That's what happens with old cars.Oh, those seat mountings are far from the worst I've seen, and the seat belt mountings will have been hidden by carpet on the MOT - so if they didn't crunch or flex when the tester prodded 'em they'll have passed. There'd be no old cars on the road if MOT testers were allowed to remove carpets and wire brush stuff.. and not many new ones.Don't give up with it, but I'd strongly recommend fixing the bits you've found and then screwing the thing back together and using it.

Don't worry Pete i'm not going to give up !And i was not looking for problems (believe it or not) i just removed the interior to weld on a patch to the outer sill, as i didn't want to have an accidental carpet fire on my hands. As for just screwing everything back in when i have fixed the "New problems" ... I would not be able to sleep at night if i knew there was something wrong with the car and did not atleast attempt to fix it.If i don't find a problem it is obviously fine, or if it is not major (Like the rear wheel arches, they are just getting a top coat of filler and sprayed)But if i know it is structural i CANT leave it, as i am not willing to risk anyones life whilst in the car.But don't worry i intend to drive it to Tatton Park, so i'm not going to take forever. And if i can persuade the old man to put it on his Insurance, i will drive it around with "L" plates on untill i have passed my test. Thanks for the interest and reply anyway Pete :)

Collingwood insurance do a short term insurance policy for learners. It might be worth looking them up and giving them a call. They also do a fortnights insurance with no questions asked for about £35 and will cover anything up to a 3 litre Omega.

I think MOT testers are only allowed to use thumb pressure or something aren't they??And as Pete said, every time you move something you will find holes on a 30 odd year old car.I bet that little bit of rust on the scuttle will be a bigger hole under the rubber when you take out the screen, so leave it in!

This is the scary part of running old cars! No matter how pristine it may look, there's always the nagging fear that lifting those lovely clean carpets will reveal a world of misery that you'd just rather not know about!

Thanks Warren !I will give them a call at the end of next week, as i plan to have most of the car finished by then.

Yeah for now im going to use some ISOPON on it, just to keep the water at bay (at atleast try to)Then when i have time, Money and a garage i will sort it propperly.I have nearly sorted the inner sill out nowStarted work on it at 4, and got alot done.Tomorrow will hopefully have a finished sill and nearly completed Seat anchorage point.- Well that all depends on if i can find the tiny bit of dirt that is in my eye(I had safety glasses on, JUST turned everythin off, removed the glasses and out of no were .. DIRT !)

Shine a torch in your eye and the dirt should show up. If it doesn't shift with gentle persuasion/washing get yourself to A&E tonight or tomorrow morning and beat the Friday night rush.

Thanks richard for the concearn I left it for a while, and the item seems to have gone !I tried abit of water in there but it didn't help.

Hello there !

Firstly:

Inner sills are done YAY !

Posted Image (Shockingly bad welding)

Posted Image

And as you can see from the picture below the seat anchorage point is nearly there too:

Posted Image

I filled in the rear arch and gave it a coat of primer for now

Posted Image

Whilst that was drying i put on some new rear wheel bearings too.

After buying the Yellow Light covers from Andrew and not being able to find the right bulbs for them, to both fit my headlights and the covers.

I purchased these :

Posted Image

(Sorry for the bad photo)

If anyone is interested in some i am due to recieve a nice box full

So drop me a PM and as soon as i have them, i will get back to you.

I can also get these:

Anyway my headlight went from this:

To this:

I might pop my headlights out and give them a good clean as they appear "misty".

I also got a second hand Boot strut from the scrappy from a Mk4 Fiesta, i just had to change the ends around (Still need to replace the other)

All in all, there is not alot more to do now

Thanks for reading :)

Keep the updates coming fella, always good to see how things are progressing.Just one thing, whats with the yellow headlight things? Did I miss something?

Posted

Andrew on here was selling Yellow light covers and mention afew benefits. And they wouldn't fit mine (as i have old big round light bulbs)So had to buy 411 yellow bulbs

Without wishing to sound patronising you're doing a fantastic job there MM5 and this is a very enjoyable thread.

Thanks barret but i now have the 411 orange bulbs :) !And thanks Cavette, it keeps me motivated and makes me feel accomplished when others enjoy my work and take an interest too.Retregoozer search for the thread "Yellow Light" and all is in there buddie.I will keep everyone updated as soon as i get any more 411 bulbs and them blue covers too. (I may also be able to get some yellow ones, but i have heard they cook the bulb as they let out no heat  )Anyway, thanks for the kind words and interest it will spare me on for today !Going to take advantage of the great weather WIN !Exhaust off, and Tar - Crap Waxoil all underneath.Without trying to sound massivly stupid, does anyone like Warren or Station know a local place that sells metal so i can repair the botton of the passenger door. (I closed it yesterday abit too hard and a lump of filler fell out !!)Thanks again guys / And any Female viewers

Hello (again) everyone !

Firstly i don't want to make another thread for the Rebel as it will take the p*ss and annoy everyone.

Secondly please bare with me, as i need to try find the pictures of the work i did on the fiesta, and the pictures of the rebel itself.

Thanks all :D

Edit .. PICTURES ! (well some of them)

Here is the Rebel...

Remember that rust at the top of the door ?

Posted Image

Well it quickly got removed ..

Step 1 (kind of) ..

NOW :

Posted Image

There is still a gap due to stupidly thin metal, but it is going to be filled.

Rear Quarter Tacked in place:

Top of tank with a thin layer of underseal

You lucky bugger, looks great!Have you had a poke around the chassis yet? They do like to rot...Isn't it Triumph front suspension on these?

Posted

Yeah triumph suspension it is !And the chassis needs abit of welding here and there, but nothing i can't sort (Sorry to sound like a big headed ... BEEEP)So the plan is to either:Get the fiesta done and sold back to it's previous owner, and sort out the Rebel to a high standard with a full respray.Or still fix the fiesta, keep it as a Daily, whilst keep the rebel and fix it to a "MOT" safe level, and that can be my weekend blaster and shite hauler :)

Posted

Well i'd keep the Fiesta, it's probably a better bet as a daily.I'd get the Rebel MOT'd and do a 'rolling resto' on it. As for chassis rot, i'm pretty sure these have something silly like 9 bolts holidng the body and the chassis together, and you can lift the body with about 3 people. might be an idea if you wanna do it properly and then you can paint the whole chassis and get it nice and rust-proofed. I might have a Haynes book of lies knocking about for these somewhere, but I think all my Reliant stuff went last time I moved out :(

Posted

Great idea Barrett, that sounds like the route i should take !Thanks alot, even if you just find an empty box with nothing but dust in it. It's nice knowing that you tried :)I need to try and get a full set of locks + keys for it , as it comes with no keys  But i'm not going to do alot more untill i have the V5 back. And then i will hopefully get my money through within afew weeks, and a big push on both cars :)I pick up my rear wheel cylinders for the fiesta tomorrow, from the legendary Lloyd.

Posted

I'm pretty sure the doors are the same as on the Regal, so I suppose the door handles/locks are too.... I know you were gonna try and fit the Maestro ones but keep your eyes out for Regals going cheap for parts on ebay or whatever, or maybe try some of these places.

oh-just noticed this, though it looks much too good to break! worth an email for locks and keys eh?

Posted

I am buying the Meastro ones for spares, as for some reason my mind says i need them :)and i think the rear meastro lock will fit the bonnet on the rebel. Thanks for all the Help :)

did you ever get the number plate lights?

Does anyone have any rear reg' lights ? The ones from the fiesta have been painted over

from page 6....

Ooh sorry !No, i havn't been able to fine any as of yet :)A little update:FIESTAI got the Rear wheel Brake Cylinders today, and quickly found out they are incorrect, so will have to return them tomorrow.I have completed ALL welding :) !!!And have begun hammering the underneath with underseal (It's even in my hair)REBELI got the Rebel running, with added plumes of white and blue-ish smoke. Then found a nice pool of oil underneath.I then drained the Oil, and smelt petrol had mixed in with it.So Engine out Job !Good job it comes with a spare engine :) But i think i am going to "bench test" the other engine before fitting, then rebuild the original, and re-fit That is all for now :D

Whitevanman::lol: At this rate i'm going to owe you a Limb !Was it you that wanted Autodata ? - If so, i will put a copy of it in the envelope, that i send with payment of all items + P&P.Edit :Brammy, don't you even have a front garden ? or space in the street outside your house ?For years i have layed on cold, wet, sometimes even snowy concrete or tarmac. Either in a drive or on the road.So i guess i am used to it.Thanks for the kind words, and don't let abit of garden or a lack of driveway stop you !!
