Shite cars, shite towns?

SOZ if this has been done before and all that but does anyone associate shite cars with shite towns from experience?I used to work in Ellesmere Port from about 1988-1993 and I swear almost everyone had a Metro and those that didn't had a Talbot.Metros were the THE thing at the time unless you were all posh and had a Talbot of some sort. Maybe you were kicked out of town if you had a Japanese car or pehaps the correct number of fingers and toes or something but I never could get my head round the Metro/Talbot thing.Incidentally in the late seventies if you lived in 'the Port' and didn't have a Vauxhall Viva you were a Tory loving, anti-union, curtain twitching GRASS, but that's probably because of the Vauxhall plant in the town. Ditto Rhyl and Press-me-hat-in mid-late eighties where it seemed you couldn't go more than half a mile without seeing an A60 or Maxi.Is there some sort of weird connection (or parallel universe) between shite towns and shite cars?

Hmm.A while ago EVERYONE on the Grange Park estate in Blackpool had a manky old Mk 4 Escort. Periodically the local plod went round and swept up all the untaxed / uninsured ones and then they went out and bought another £50 scrappy Mk 4 Ezzy special.

Everyone in Ipswich seems to have a Nissan Bluebird in the driveway which is quite amazing considering that Foxhall Stadium is up the road where they do the banger racing.

Late 1990s Falkirk seemed to have a very high proportion of Citroens. Not least as there was a minicab Co. that ran a fleet of BXs. Here, there's a disappointingly high number of modified Golfs as if there's no other choice but this might not be exclusive to here..

Oh just thought of another one, Bloody Type 2 VW Camper vans, I reckon nearly every street around here has one on it parked up in the driveway.

Theres tons of bluebirds here as well, along with MKIV Escorts. I always tend to associate places that are seaside towns with shite cars.

There is an astonishingly high number of Fiat Puntos round my way. In the late 90's, in a town Called Linlithgow where I used to live, everyone seemed to have a MK3 or 4 Escort or MK2 Fiesta, all with Hadrian cover sills painted with black underseal. However, Girlfriend_L lives in a town called Cumbernauld which has been voted, on more than one occasion, top of one of these 'crap towns' polls. Its actually not that bad and there is very little in the way of shite, except the odd cracked-bumper Mondeo and 1 Reliant Robin.

I would just like to state that council estates and Transit vans don't count. There's one the other said of town and on at least one road every second house seems to have one. Mostly with a mixture of bin bag windows, pound shop wheeltrims and gaffer taped wheel arches.

Popley in Basingstoke has loads of MKIII Transits, minbuses, SWB, LWB etc etc.South Ham is the best area for shite round here, tons of it.The car parks round the top of town are always good too.I also thought that small towns and villages in the south west were good for shite, Ill find out this weekend....

Hey I didn't see you there. I live at the top of the hill on Preston Rd. Being there since 95. In 95 it was a 525e on the drive followed by a DGT Tipo and now a MkII Astra 1.6 Auto.Do you remember the old cars Dick McNicol had? Has he still got them? Haven't seen anything of him since he sold the garage next to Sainsbugs. :?
