I love the 2 door versions of all the big saloons we never got here,  Granadas, Volvo 242,  Opel Rekord etc. They seen a lot cooler than the regular 4 doors for some reason.

There are so many old Japanese cars in Norway, they seem to be more common there now than they were back when they were new in Sweden! Why did they sell so well?

They sold well here as we understood early on that they were better cars than most similar cars made in the West. Japanese cars also suit the climate well, easy starting in the winter, among other things. I've never understood myself why anyone bought an Escort over a Corolla.

Below is an article in Norwegian about the Mazda 616, a bestseller in Norway. My dad had a couple, and most of his friends had one in the 1980s. They were really good cars.

Mazda sales in Norway began in 1967, and the cars from Hiroshima quickly caught on with Norwegian car buyers at home. From the start, the gorgeous 1500 and 1800 models with designs from Bertone created attention and interest in the new car brand. However, the highest sales figures in the following years were probably accounted for by models such as the small cars 1000 and 1300 – and Mazda surprisingly quickly established a strong reputation for good quality and high reliability. The latter was not least an important argument at a time when the same could not be said about all European models.
