You can just see the HSE being really relaxed about that sort of thing today" You want to load some people on a top heavy double decker, and launch it round a skidpan whilst the conductor hangs off the back and people sstand watching a few feet away...... Yeah go for it"

OMG DRIFT!There's a great bit in one of the On The Buses films where Butler is sent to the skid pan. He may even have done the stunt as he did learn to drive a bus for the programme.IIRC, John Noakes went there too on Blue Peter.

I'll have to ask my dad about this, he was driving London Transport buses out of Fulwell around then. He didn't take me & my brother to that Chiswick show though but might have done training there.

I might be in the background of that somewhere! My dad worked there around that time, indeed used to hear them on the skidpan from his office at times. I distinctly remember going to an open day event there.FT, they definitely weren't top heavy. One of the things on display was a Routemaster on the tipping rig. They could lean to something like 30 degrees before falling over. There may be a photo of that somewhere at home.

I've found this photo, they can lean 28 Degrees before tipping over which is quite some feat.

At the old Aldenham bus works they used to do this. I was on the top deck of one with 12 colleagues and they did the tilt with us on the top deck. Absolutely brill... :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

PS we were told on our visit that was the place where some of the Cliff R film Summer Holiday was shot.

Just asked my mum about this event at Chiswick. It was a one off for some anniversary or other and we were definitely there.Apparently the bus tipping device was somewhere else that we went to for one of my birthdays.
