Yes Regency was a UK special edition of 500 cars. I would say more maroon coloured, although in theory it should be regency red  I have a brochure of it somewhere, they even had rear window blinds!

My Dad might have had one of these? All I can really remember is that it was maroon, and had electric front windows - which seriously impressed me. Did a lot of the 14 model range have electric windows?Cheers, Greg (sorry for slight thread hi-jack)

I think it's for the Guild of Experienced Motorists, as this was their magazine. I bought a big batch of them from a little museum/bookshop a few years ago.

More New Zealand than wales! A lyric from a one hit wonder!

The reg on that Good Motoring cover tagora shp24w is very similar to the one that is currently decomposing in Blaenavon in wales which is shp2w. Probably makes it one of the 1st british batch and one of the 1st press cars by the looks of things as dvla, ing all the concecutive numbers up to 24 all bar a few are tagoras . Intresting to see an sx on a w plate as the 2.6sx didnt come available until september of 81 .

Wasn't SHP 2W a road test/long term test car in the late and missed Motor magazine?

I have said article at home. It was a Peony Red GLS... I think the reg was SHP24W. They gave it quite glowing praise actually. 5* for most categories.I will dig it out and report back. :D

I see youve still got your red tagora keith - i did need sills if i recall whats happening with it?

Whereabouts in Herts are you boobydoo? I was born in Hitchin & last I was there, there was a derelict R14 in someone's driveway. Need someone local to go see if it's still there though! It's been in that driveway with a Hillman Avenger for company unmoved for years & years!

Definately no longer there. I drove up and down Woolgrove Road twice scanning the driveways. Did manage to spot a R plate Hillman Hunter though, looking rather worse for wear in my favourite gold colour that they did... with vinyl roof to boot. Rust everywhere and slatherings of black rustproofing all over the sills. Forgot my camera otherwise would have taken a pic.Would probably also have taken a pic of the rather hideous fat woman in tight grey leggings and footie shirt, walking down said street pushing a pram whilst bellowing on her cheap pay-as-you-go mobile and flicking her fag butt on the floor........

Hmm, one does wonder if those Russkies copied the Tagora design as well as the Alpine for the Aleko!

Flamin `eck Tom, that`s a right old pic you`ve dug up, must be a prototype Peugeot badged one, nice work!

the 604 went out in 1985 and the 605 didn't come in until 1989maybe that was supposed to be a stopgapthey are definitely Peugeot (I think Michelin actually) wheels. At that time they would have been 505 wheels I think. I have some in the garage for my 604.

Believe it or not, this mock up by Chrysler dates back to 1978.

You can see how far the car had developed by this stage.

When Peugeot took over in January 79 they would have liked to have canned the Tagora if it hadn't reached this advanced stage...after all, they already had the 604 and 505 in production both of which were direct competitors.

I think this shot also shows the worst aspect of the Tagora...the steeply raked bonnet. It just looks wrong. The smoothed out Peugeot version posted earlier shows a much more acceptable front end and would have been quite a success, I'm sure!!

Hey Mr. boobydoo, where is your Tagora? The one under the tarp, it's gone!

Sold it to some chav from Chelmsford for £50 then found out he was gonna banger-race it......GUTTED!

Seriously? Bugger!I guess he will get major oval-kudos for something so unusual. Do you know of any others that have been raced?

Sorry couldn't resist a wind up!!It's safe and sound in a friends barn. He's tinkering about with it as it has been standing for a year.I know it needs a new exhaust, but I reckon apart from that it would pass an MOT. I last drove it in July 2009 and it actually was a nicer drive than my mint red one. There's only one 10p sized bit of rust on it but the rear arches are filler. Eventually , I'll get all new metal put in here and respray it...get the alloys refurbed blah blah...but its on the back burner really. The Solara is my next project .....new front bumper, alloy re-furb , re-paint the roof , front wing and rear wheel arch repair...engine is sweet!Always seem to end up spending loads on cars that'll never re-coup the cost...oh well!! :D
