Wibble’s Wittering - Cortina, Senator & occasional Skoda & family ramblings, soz!

We met with my sister and niece yesterday, for them to hand over more family photos. They want me to be the holder of the archives.

I’ve only looked at a few so far but these I hadn’t seen before:

Me, about to get in my Cortina, late 80s, Dad’s Carlton on the left:

Me visiting for Christmas early 90s, you can just about see what I drove up in:

Vauxhall this then?:

It’s big blue to the rescue. First trip out in the Senny this year and popped in to clear the EML light of my colleague’s Astra following a replacement coil pack.

The Senator started first time as always and it was great to drive it again. My colleague had never heard of, never mind seen a Senator in his life and he thought it was beautiful.

I do like it when you mention a model and somebody goes "a what?". Used to get that with the Bluebird quite a bit. Focus, Mondeo, Capri people are more likely to have heard of!

The only car I get that with is the Mercury.

‘oh, what’s that!?’

A Mercury Marquis…

‘errr’

Uncle Buck’s car…

‘Oh, I know! That was a great movie!’

Just thinking, I have a boot full of 70’s Ford model range brochures, are they worth anything? I have some duplicates and just curious.

Some seem to be worth something. Couldn’t say how much as I’m not an expert, but I had a few myself before moving and put them on eBay just to shift them to new homes. Some sold, some didn’t.

Being Ford brochures might be a good thing though.

Depends partly on their condition, but they are certainly worth something.  There's some offered at high prices on Ebay but if you want to actually sell them then probably think of £2 - £5 each.

That’s about what I got for mine. I put them on eBay at 0.99p start auction. Some didn’t sell, but most I got between £2 - £5. Popular vehicles obviously will probably sell best, Fords of the 70’s and 80’s, Mini’s…

I've had some success selling brochures on here recently.

Indeed, I have had a PM already.

I still miss my 16v Senator after nearly 20 years without it.

I have had several Omegas and my current 3.2 Elite is a lovely car, but there was something special about the Senator.

Think you mean 24v😉 but I agree, there’s something special about them for sure.

The Senator is, once again, my go to car for weekends and always starts first time. On my way to Sainsbury’s today I came across a MK1 Cortina, left hand drive, in excellent order. We both gave each other a double take.

The seats and carpets in both the Senny and Cortina need a good clean, so I took advantage of an Argos special offer and bought one of these with a discount code:

Being unemployed in the winter was shit, being unemployed with nicer weather, might mean I actually get some jobs done. I have a long list!

My sister had to be recovered home yesterday, on her return from holiday, Heathrow back to Gloucester. It seems the clutch slave cylinder has failed on her Octavia and she’s intending to scrap it!

It’s an easy replacement that I’m happy to do. This is the car I’ve shown on this thread before. Yes, it’s a bit more battered now but it seems a shame to bin it off. I’ll ask my former colleague, who sold it to her, if he wants it back, it seems such a waste. I have to decide pretty quick though, it’s being collected next week😢IMG_4641.jpeg.1d630a0be224d0079f417e185e9f9b05.jpeg

This is it, with my Superb, last year. It now has damage to the NSR door and wheel arch and a scratch across the tailgate. I think it should be saved. Anyone interested?

Arent the slave cylinders on these on top of the gearbox, and the master behind the pedal? Should be an easy fix either way. Would be a shame to scrap it.

Yes, I reckon I’d have it sorted in a couple of hours but she’s not local. She’s made a claim for the impact damage with a bollard and intends to tell them about the clutch problem the day before the approved repairer is due to collect it. A bit of poetic licence but she’s spent over a grand on it this last year and is fixed on buying a nearly new Fabia. Shame, plenty of life left in this but I have nowhere to put it.

If you can buy it for scrap value, fix it and take it to your former job to sell it for fun?

I like your thinking but, with the distance and cost involved, I’d probably end up with a loss.

Yes, I thought so, but it was a fun thought in my head at least.

Something amazing is happening, right now, in our house. Our boys don’t get on usually, unfortunately. It’s our eldest’s 21st tomorrow and our youngest has just run downstairs to grab some sheet music, he’s on piano and eldest on guitar, what a joy to hear!

What are they playing or mangling?

Fleetwood Mac. Now it’s “over the rainbow”, which I love.

My sister decided to claim for her bump causing damage to the near side rear door, sill and quarter panel. Result was a total loss, of course. She’s happy, they’ve offered £2k, which she’s putting towards another Skoda. Shame, the Octavia had loads of life left in it. Maybe it will live on after a salvage auction but I doubt it. A great car and an untimely end.
