I've just being looking at some of the stuff that comes up for sale on here http://www.ovalbangerchat.co.uk/index.php?act=idx

There seem to be some pretty rare stuff which seems a shame to banger.

(Don't turn this into a 'I hate bangers' thread!)

and you might need to log into view them.

I'm surprised by all the Mk 1 Mondeo's on there for sale as well, These must be the new weapon of choice.

There is always good stuff for sale on Oval chat, and Mondeos have replaced Granadas and Bluebirds as the weapon of choice. Ovalchat is quite good, but they all seem to talk in txt speak.....I posted some of my models in the erm.. models section and was inundated with questions like "ow much 4 dem mdlz m8...?" and "What do you mak em wiv...?" Got pissed off with it after a while. The guy selling the Princess looks like hes serious looking at the Westies in the background. You sometimes see some gems on there though including some quite tidy recoveries. I thinks its a good thing if some cars that were destined for the oval end up not being raced and end up back in the hands of us enthusiasts........

Rustbuckets condemned to the scrap yard rightly so, but these should see the road again. It's a shame as no-one seems to have the money or the space ever. Can't see those Rolls' going round the track.

When myself and bro' were racing, we got offered stuff all the time, but if it was a bit rare or different, usually tried to find a home elsewhere for it.However, some stuff is beyond repair, and some people are beyond hope....

I'm on OvalChat but you need a degree in Advanced Moronry and TxtTypn to even remotely understand 98% of the sellers on there. For those who may not have registered go and sign up and check out the adverts, the majority of which are roughly like this:'Nisn Blooey 4 sale GR8 4 Wimbo'Any responses usually get met by 'txt me M8 n make an ofer'.And that's about the sum of the information available.

I know the guy that's selling the Austin. He has raced some serious tackle and his yards are a sight to behold. He provides a lot of parts to enthusiasts and restorers and is responsible for keeping several rare motors on the road. :) The text speak is frustrating on Ovalchat but you go from one extreme to the other in banger racing in every respect. No car is to good for banger racing.

It's a pity to see a grand old girl like the Shadow end her days like that, but it's uneconomical if it's rotten as a pear. Broken for parts it would be worth much more than £3000 I'd have thought. People don't realise the servicing cost or the parts cost that even specialists have to pass on, and a huge bill for a brake service at 100k might well be the straw that breaks (literally) the camel's back. A white one is especially undesirable - you still see them, smokey and full of pug, plying their trade at Sharon and Kev's wedding - but I think they just look sad. I'm not into destruction, but Royces rust as badly as anything else and there is a HUGE amount of metal to go crisp.

In many cases cars can pay for themselves, particularly once the valuable parts have been sold on. Lost count of how many Rollers have been raced now - pretty sure it's up to triple figures now. At the end of the day what gets raced helps increase the value of the remaining ones!!It really annoys me when I see things get baled straight away that could be raced and/or yield parts for someone. It's the same old debate people moan about rare cars being raced but they can't put their money where the mouths are. Most racers like to keep rare stuff on the road when it's feasible, there's quite a bit thats been saved or restored and there a lot of cars out there that are stockpiled because they are good bangers which would be long gone by now if it weren't for the racers.

The "put your money where your mouth is" idea sounds reasonable. except that it assumes that classic fans have loads of disposable income. I certainly don't and my hobby car cost £500 to buy. Right now I'd struggle to rescue a Dinky car, but it doesn't stop me feeling sad seeing nice old cars monstered for laughs.
